Understanding Heat Exhaustion vs. Heat Stroke
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious heat-related conditions. Know the difference to stay safe this summer!
Heat Exhaustion:
Symptoms: Heavy sweating, weakness, cold, pale, clammy skin, fast but weak pulse, nausea or vomiting, fainting.
Action: Move to a cooler place, drink water, apply cool cloths.
Heat Stroke:
Symptoms: High body temperature (above 103°F), hot, red, dry, or damp skin, rapid and strong pulse, confusion, unconsciousness.
Action: Call 911 immediately, move to a cooler environment, try to lower body temperature with cool cloths or a bath. Do not give fluids.
Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade!
