A pivotal event in the Calender of King Edward Medical University- the Oath-Taking Ceremony for the newly selected Office Bearers of Society of Prevention, Advocacy and Research KEMU (SPARK Executive Cabinet, Session 2023-24) took place on 25-05-2023 in Video Conference Hall, Patiala Block, King Edward Medical University.
The proceedings of the day witnessed a distinguished gathering of audience who acknowledged the relentless efforts and unwavering guidance of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, the Patron-in-Chief and Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, the visionary and dynamic Editor-in-Chief of the Journal and Staff President of the Society of Prevention, Advocacy and Research, KEMU. Their invaluable contributions have been instrumental in leading SPARK and JSPARK to their current position of prestige and honor.
The Executive Cabinet Members gathered to bear witness, with Prof. Dr. Ijaz Hussain, Pro-Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, to their dedication and commitment as they embark on the journey that symbolises responsibility, leadership and growth.
Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal congratulated the Executive Cabinet Members on their new roles and shared her inspirational thoughts and wisdom throughout.
The Presidents of SPARK, Syed Faqeer Hussain Bukhari and Maurish Fatima, took the opportunity to present an overview of SPARK, its mission, achievements and year long plans. The Managing Editor of JSPARK, Dr. Ramsha Mushtaq Khan, provided insightful details about the newly established medical journal of the society.
Prof. Dr. Ijaz Hussain, Prof. Dr. Faisal Masood shared their thoughts and well-wishes to the new cabinet.
The Ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal and Prof. Dr. Nazish Imran.

SPARK-Society of Prevention, Advocacy and Research, KEMU organized a research orientation session "How to turn research ideas to a research paper?" on 29th September 2022 in Old Auditorium, King Edward Medical University. Miss Ayesha Sehar from 2nd Year MBBS, started the workshop with a brief introduction of the speaker, Dr Mirza Zeeshan Sikander. He is a recent graduate of CPMC as well as President Central Park Research Society. He is the author of more than 25 research publications and is also the winner of many national and international research competitions. Then she handed the podium to the speaker. He explained the basics of research from how to start and formulate a paper. He talked about how to process any idea and observe the problem questions around us. After his talk, there was a brief answer question session. Students from different years of MBBS discussed their research queries with the worthy speaker. The session ended with taking a group photo of the participants with the worthy speaker.

A seminar was held on 13th September, 2022 under collaboration of SPARK and KEMUNITED in Old Auditorium, KEMU. The lady President SPARK as well as KEMUNITED, Miss Fatima Yasin, alongwith the Media Secretary SPARK, Mr Usman Javed opened the house with the introduction of both the societies. Then they introduced the guest speaker Dr Muhammad Zaman Khan. Dr Zaman has been working at Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Lahore as Assistant Professor of Medicine since 2015. He is a graduate of Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) and was declared the first most Distinguished Graduate of AIMC due to his exceptionally high academic performance. As a medical student, he topped his university final professional exams and won 14 gold medals. Since 2011, he has been the youngest member of Dengue Expert Advisory Group (DEAG) Punjab. He is currently working as a researcher at Department of Developmental Biology at University of Aberdeen.
The seminar was joined by students from King Edward Medical University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Sheikh Zayad Medical College, and Fatima Jinnah Medical University. The house was closed with the ending note by Dr Zahid Kamal, Staff President KEMUNITED, Principle COAVS.

Dr Zaman is a former associate professor of medicine and is a research fellow in University of Aberdeen currently. SPARK-Society of Prevention, Advocacy and Research held its first research orientation session " A Beginner Guide to Research and Innovation" on 7th Sept 2022 in Old Auditorium, King Edward Medical University. Miss Fatima Yasin from Final Year MBBS, Lady President SPARK, started the workshop with a brief introduction of the society and it's yearly planner. Then she handed the podium to the present President, Mr Qasim Mehmood from Final Year MBBS. Mr Qasim Mehmood is an avid researcher with more than 25+ international publications under his name. He has also been awarded the Hamdani Best Undergraduate Researcher Award for the Year 2021. He explained the basics of research in a very detailed yet understandable language. He talked about the types of researches and publication processes of the journals too. More than 250 students from 1st to final year MBBS attended the session. The workshop ended with awarding the participants with their certificates.
