The sessions focussed on strengthening Work based assessment tools for uniform assessment of all residents, making various SOPs so that uniformity be present among all procedures
The workshop comprehensively covered audit design, all 6 stages of audit, advantages of audit. A clinical audit done on pre_op investigations in SHL was presented.
The event was held under patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore,
VC UHS and hosted by Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali (Head of anaesthesia department),valuable insights were shared by Dr. Samina Ashraf (SR anaesthesia)and Dr. Minahil Zaman (SR Anaesthesia).Various prestigious faculty members from all over Punjab were present there physically and on-line

The Department of Anesthesia, under the leadership of the Principal Prof Dr Zohra Khanam and the supervision of Prof Dr Liaqat Ali successfully organized a two-day academic activity on Regional Anesthesia from January 23 to January 24 2026.

The program featured active participation from international faculty member Dr. Xavier Falieres, President of the Dutch Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia and Executive Member of the European Society of Day Case Anesthesia.

The academic activity included in-depth discussions on contemporary practices in fascial plane blocks, their role in opioid-sparing analgesia, and the use of adjuncts with local anesthetics. This was followed by live intraoperative demonstrations of ultrasound-guided regional blocks in selected patients.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from anesthesiologists representing various tertiary care hospitals. The sessions were highly interactive and were met with positive feedback, reflecting the strong academic impact and relevance of the activity.

*Maternal Resuscitation Workshop* was held at G-2, Services Hospital Lahore, under the leadership of the Principal - Prof. Zohra Khanam and supervision of Prof. Robina Farrukh & Prof. Liaqat Ali on 25th October 2025.

The event, a collaborative effort of Gynae Unit II and the Anesthesia Department, covered preeclampsia, eclampsia, massive obstetric hemorrhage, and maternal CPR. Eighteen participants attended, giving an impressive *4.92* overall rating and achieved *above 80%* average post-workshop test score.

*Academic Activity* *– October 6, 2025*

The Department of Anesthesiology, SIMS Lahore, under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Zohra Khanam (Principal, SIMS), organized a one-day workshop on Live Ultrasound-Guided Upper Limb Blocks.

The hands-on activity was conducted under the kind supervision of Prof. Liaqat Ali (Head of Department, Anesthesia) and Dr. Xavier Falieres (President, European Society of Day Case Anesthesia).

The workshop featured live demonstrations of supraclavicular and interscalene nerve blocks in elective orthopedic patients with the kind help of Prof Irfan (Head of Department - Ortho-I) in the presence of Dr Sohail Razzaq Awan (Head of Department - Ortho-II) , followed by insightful discussions on acute pain management in resource-limited settings with anesthesia faculty and residents.

Key aspects of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in thoracic and oncological surgeries were also highlighted, with valuable contributions from Prof. Shoaib Nabi (Head of Department, Thoracic Surgery) and Dr. Muhammad Awais (Assistant Professor of Surgery).

The session was well received by all participants, providing an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing, clinical skill enhancement, and academic collaboration.

*Mock Examination for FCPS (IMM)*

The Department of Anaesthesia, Services Hospital / SIMS Lahore organized a Mock Examination for FCPS (Intermediate Module) on 10th September 2025 at SHL/SIMS, Lahore under kind leadership of Prof Zohra Khanam (Principal - SIMSL& Prof Liaqat Ali (Head of Anesthesia Department) .

The faculty members who conducted and supervised the examination were: Dr. Ali Rehman, Dr. Adnan Umer, Dr. Muhammad Usman Khalid, Dr. Muhammad Wasim Ali Amjad, Dr. H. M. Hamid, Dr. Rabia Malik, Dr. Mehwish, Dr. Arshad, Dr. Arslan.

A total of *18 candidates* from various institutions across Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, and Rahim Yar Khan, actively participated in the activity.

The exercise was well received by the candidates, who demonstrated confidence and preparedness during the sessions. Based on structured feedback, the overall rating of the activity was *4.72 out of 5.0,* reflecting the effectiveness of the mock exam in simulating the real assessment environment and enhancing candidate readiness.

The Department of Anaesthesia at SHL/SIMS remains committed to providing high-quality academic and professional training opportunities.
