Dr. Awais Zaka, MD, FACP A nephrologist passionate about community health. Hello all! I am Dr. Awais Zaka. I am a nephrologist based in Lahore, Pakistan.

Though nephrology is my passion and practice, I am equally passionate about community health. I am a US-trained internist and nephrologist. In addition, I have worked as a hospitalist and a nephrologist in multiple hospitals across the US. To help elevate the level of patient care in Pakistan, I have developed the Expert Consult Clinic of Lahore. At this multispeciality complex, we practice medicine with passion and compassion. Since our institution is still in its infancy, I spend most of my time on its premises. When I am not in the clinic, you will find me at home spending time with the family. And whenever I can disentangle myself from the worries of the world, I take refuge in my library.

Many kidney disease patients fail to gain the benefits of these newer drugs because they give in to the myths and fears surrounding these medications. True, these drugs bring some bodily changes in the kidney patients, and lead, occasionally, to serious side effects.

But not using these medicines is hardly the reasonable thing to do. The best course of action instead should be a complete knowledge of these drugs and their adverse effects.

Kidney disease is a life-altering diagnosis. Many patients find it hard to accept that they have kidney disease. Therefore, they repeat the serum creatinine test again and again, hoping that their first elevated creatinine was a lab error. Secondly, creatinine becomes less reliable in some cases, such as in the weak, the muscular, and the elderly.

In all these scenarios, we now have a new test that has proven to be more reliable than creatinine.

This risky move makes our ADPKD patients speeds up their diseaes progression more rapidly than the disease naturally does.
