Ever ask yourself: "Who even are you?" Not your job title, not your roles in life—just you. It’s a question we often dodge, but one that’s central to living authentically. We all wear different masks, switching from one role to another—at work, with family, or even on social media. But what happens when you lose track of your real self underneath all those roles?

Let’s take a closer look at Jim Carrey’s wild journey for an example of what it means to lose yourself—and find yourself again.
Jim Carrey’s Breakdown: When Playing a Role Becomes Reality
Remember Man on the Moon? Jim Carrey took on the role of comedian Andy Kaufman so intensely that he didn’t just act like him on screen—he became Andy Kaufman, even off camera. For months, he lived as Kaufman, lost in the character to the point where he forgot who Jim Carrey really was.

Carrey talks about how playing Kaufman, along with Kaufman’s alter ego, Tony Clifton, led to months of confusion and emotional exhaustion. When filming wrapped, he wasn’t sure how to return to being himself. It was so intense that Carrey eventually had to shut down, step away from his career, and start therapy. That’s how lost he had become.

The Turning Point: Carrey’s Spiritual Awakening
After that experience, Jim Carrey started asking the big questions. If he could lose himself in a character, what did that say about his "real" identity? He began to realize that even Jim Carrey was just another role, another persona he had crafted over the years. This realization sparked what he now calls his spiritual journey. He began to question the nature of identity itself—asking, "Who am I, really?" beyond the fame, the laughter, and the roles.

Why Does This Matter to You?
Carrey’s experience might seem extreme, but it’s something many of us can relate to. How often do we get lost in the roles we play? At work, with family, online—constantly performing, constantly switching masks. We get so caught up in being who others expect us to be that we lose sight of who we actually are.
The question "Who even are you?" isn’t just existential fluff—it’s a reminder to reconnect with our authentic selves. If we don’t pause and reflect, we risk drifting through life on autopilot, playing roles instead of living truthfully.

Let’s Get Real

So, here’s the real question for you—who even are you? Not the job title. Not the social media persona. Not the labels others put on you. If you stripped away all those roles, what’s left?
Carrey found his answer by going on a spiritual journey. Yours might look different, but the point is to start asking. You might be surprised at what you find. Let’s make space to reconnect with ourselves, beyond all the noise.

What do you think? Have you ever felt like you’ve lost touch with your true self because of the roles you play? Drop your thoughts below 👇 Let's have an honest conversation.

It is an interesting world at the moment. We are running after something sitting on our couches, they tell us to breathe, exercise, be mindful and well sometimes all of it can just look like a hoax and that is when it is either situational or biological.

Your disorder, mood, emotion and feelings could just look functional and that is for survival. Hang in there with your health, wellness and life. Find someone to hear you and you will be on track, soon! Just know, you will!

As a South Asian Psychologist with over 13 years in hashtag and hashtag followed by 7 years in the industry.

I have worked with over 4500 clients and completed extensive professional/academic research. I have also consulted with 12+ corporations, made regular TV appearances with 15+ media houses, and worked with internationally recognized non-profit institutes.

Of course, with my own 30 years of life in Pakistan, the United States, and now Canada, I can assure you that South Asian hashtag well-being and hashtag are unique and require a professional who truly understands our values and norms.

It can be challenging to find someone who understands the complexities of our socio-cultural and demographic backgrounds. That's why I'm here to listen without judgement and without having to explain why you have to live with your parents forever, why you need permission to marry out of the family or simply just speaking your own language to vent out.

If you're looking for a professional who understands the unique challenges of hashtag psychological well-being, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Let's make hashtag work for you!

Mind, body and Soul, I will begin with what contributes to your health a whopping 70% i.e. FOOD!!! What is proper eating? I asked 2066 people about what they want to know about their diet and here's a list of some questions:

1. Misconceptions about proper eating habits, and how we can address them effectively.
2. Proper nutrition and it's impact on our mental health and emotional well-being.
3. Practical tips for maintaining a balanced diet in our busy, modern lifestyles.
4. Role of mindfulness in promoting healthy eating habits, and how can we cultivate it in our daily lives.
5. Specific strategies for overcoming emotional eating or cravings, especially during times of stress or boredom.
6. Encouraging children and adolescents to develop healthy eating habits from a young age.
7. Some signs that someone may have an unhealthy relationship with food, and how they can seek support or guidance.

We have reset our ways and we are live with Thrive Services, now from Ontario, Canada! If you have ever had similar questions and would want to find simple answers, join me on LinkedIn tomorrow at 12 PM (EST) and 9 PM (PST). Looking forward to seeing you!

One interesting discovery that I have had of mental health in Canada is that they begin with medication and do not consider counselling, lifestyle specifically fitness/discipline and dietary changes or the influence of social life on psychological well-being.

I am a psychologist and a wellness consultant with 7+ years of experience with diverse populations. I focus on mind, body and soul together to bring you to your best self. Looking forward to seeing you all.
