We congratulate Dr. Junaid Hashmi on the successful completion of his PhD from Lincoln University, Malaysia 🇲🇾.

His research, titled:
“Effectiveness of Oral Health Education in Adult Oral Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy: An Experimental Study Design”
was conducted at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, King Edward Medical University, Lahore, under the esteemed supervision of Prof. Dr. Nabeela Riaz.

📊 The study revealed that 68.45% of participants in the treatment group showed significant improvement in oral health status through targeted health education and promotion.

✅ Patients were assessed after receiving their second dose of chemotherapy, with 45% female and 55% male participation.
Marked improvements were observed in:
• Dryness of mouth
• Cracks on the tongue
• Buccal mucosal dryness
• Redness and discomfort

🔬 The findings highlight the powerful role of structured oral health education in enhancing the quality of life of oral cancer patients during chemotherapy.

🩺 Dr. Junaid Hashmi is currently serving as Head of the Department of Community Dentistry at Shahida Islam Medical & Dental College, Lodhran.

ORAL CANCER AWARENESS

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, in collaboration with Friends of Mayo, conducted an informative and engaging lecture on Oral Cancer Awareness in Asad Aslam Auditorium King Edward Medical University for O-Level and A-Level students.
The session was delivered by Dr. Samreen Younas, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, who highlighted the alarming rise in oral cancer cases and emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention.

Dr. Muhammad Abbas Khokhar, Head of the Oncology Department at King Edward Medical University, actively participated in the Oral Cancer Awareness Walk held to mark Oral Cancer Awareness Month. During the event, he emphasized the alarming rise in oral cancer cases in Pakistan and highlighted the major risk factors, including to***co use, betel nut chewing, poor oral hygiene, and delayed diagnosis.
Dr. Khokhar also shed light on the complexities involved in treating oral cancer, noting that successful management often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving oncologists, maxillofacial surgeons, radiotherapists, and rehabilitation experts. He urged the public to seek early consultation for suspicious oral lesions and stressed the importance of community-based prevention programs

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the largest of its kind in the country in managing oral cancer cases, proudly observed April as Oral Cancer Awareness Month under the supervision of Professor Dr Nabeela Riaz.Throughout the month, we conducted a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness and educating the public about the early signs, prevention, and treatment of oral cancer.

Our initiatives included academic discussions, social media campaigns, video messages from healthcare professionals, and distribution of informative brochures among the general public. These efforts were designed to empower individuals with knowledge and encourage early diagnosis, which is crucial in the fight against oral cancer.

The month-long awareness campaign culminated in a walk and a seminar, graced by the presence of our honourable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, who served as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed professionals and experts from across the country who joined us and contributed significantly to the success of this campaign. Their presence and participation reflected a collective commitment to public health and cancer prevention.

Together, we can create meaningful change. The Department remains committed to continuing its efforts for the welfare of the people through education, early detection, and comprehensive care.
