Hair Fall – When to Worry and What to Do!

Hair fall is one of the most common concerns I encounter in my dermatology practice—and one of the most emotionally distressing for patients.

We all shed some hair daily (50–100 strands is considered normal), but when hair loss becomes excessive, patchy, or persistent, it's time to dig deeper.

There are many causes of hair fall:
- Nutritional deficiencies(especially iron, Vitamin D)
- Hormonal imbalances (like thyroid disorders or PCOS)
- Post-illness hair shedding (especially after high fever, infections, or COVID-19)
- Stress, crash diets, or sudden weight loss
- Genetic predispositions like male or female pattern baldness
- Scalp conditions such as dandruff or fungal infections

As a and now a ,I am passionate about bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and public understanding. Through writing, I aim to demystify complex skin and hair concerns—and help people make informed choices.

What can you do if you're experiencing hair fall?
1. Avoid panic—and avoid self-medication.
2. Get a proper diagnosis. A detailed history, lab tests, and scalp examination are key.
3. Follow a structured plan. Treatments may include topical serums, oral supplements, procedures like PRP, or simply lifestyle adjustments.

Remember, early intervention always brings better outcomes. I will be happy if this post is shared for public awareness.

Skin health starts with awareness

>Think your itchy rash is just going away with that cream? Think again..

Many patients unknowingly worsen their fungal infections by using steroid-containing creams— often bought over the counter or even prescribed without a confirmed diagnosis.

Yes, it feels better for a few days — less red, less itchy.
But here’s the truth:
Steroids suppress symptoms, not the fungus.
And what looks like relief is actually the start of a bigger problem.

What happens next?
- The infection spreads deeper and wider.
- It becomes resistant to treatment.
- Skin thins, pigmentation changes, and scarring may occur.
- You land in a dermatologist’s office weeks (or months) later — with a condition called Tinea Incognito-a fungal infection made worse by steroids.

Let’s break the cycle :

- No steroid creams for rashes unless prescribed by a dermatologist.
- Avoid “triple combination creams” unless you're 100% sure they’re appropriate.
- Use pure antifungals for suspected fungal infections.
- Help others understand — share this post!
