Empathy works through both emotional and cognitive processes:

1. Emotional Empathy (Affective)
You feel what the other person is feeling. For example:
If a friend is crying, you might feel sadness too.
This is often automatic and unconscious.

2. Cognitive Empathy
You understand what someone else is feeling or thinking.
It's about perspective-taking.
Example: “I understand why you're upset—you've been under a lot of stress.”

3. Compassionate Empathy
You not only feel and understand but are also moved to help.
