π¨ββοΈ Meet Dr. Saleem Bajwa β Consultant Ophthalmologist & Eye Surgeon π¨ββοΈ
Hello, Iβm Dr. Saleem Bajwa, a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon at Aziz Eye Centre. In todayβs video, Iβm addressing an extremely important topic, the impact of sugar (diabetes) on your eyes.
π How Diabetes Affects Your Vision
As a diabetic patient, itβs important to understand the serious effects high blood sugar can have on your eyes. When blood sugar levels are uncontrolled, they can damage the blood vessels in the eyes, leading to various eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and an increased risk of cataracts.
π Why Diabetic Patients Are at Higher Risk for Cataracts
Uncontrolled sugar levels can lead to two common types of cataracts:
1οΈβ£ Kala Motia (Black Cataract)
2οΈβ£ Safeed Motia (White Cataract)
These conditions occur due to damage caused by high blood sugar over time, and they can lead to blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, and ultimately vision loss if left untreated.
β οΈ Why Early Treatment is Critical
Itβs crucial for diabetic patients to get regular eye exams to detect any early signs of damage. The sooner the issue is identified, the better the chances of managing it with treatment, preventing further complications, and preserving your vision.
π In this video, I explain in detail how sugar can impact your eyes and the importance of timely treatment for cataracts and other diabetic eye conditions.
