Grand Round on Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, Lahore, hosted an insightful Grand Round on Thursday, 19th June 2025, at the Bashir Ahmad Auditorium. Attended by all faculty and resident trainees, the session highlighted the role of stereotactic radiosurgery in enhancing neurosurgery by providing a non-invasive, highly precise treatment option for brain tumors and vascular abnormalities.

Dr. Sadia Abdullah, renowned Radiation Oncologist and Head of Radiation Oncology at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, delivered the comprehensive talk.

PINS-CON 2025 Announced at Punjab Institute of Neurosciences

The Punjab Institute of Neurosciences proudly unveiled PINS-CON 2025 — Pakistan’s first-ever neuro-specific congress — in a special ceremony held today.

Date reveal was done by Prof. Dr. Asif Bashir, Executive Director PINS, this landmark event will unite neurosurgery, neurology, radiology, pathology, critical care, and rehabilitation on one platform for the first time in the country’s history.

The official dates for PINS-CON 2025 are October 23–25. A new era for neuroscience in Pakistan has begun.

*Grand Round - Punjab Institute of Neurosciences*

An insightful grand round was held on endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for skull base lesions, delivered by the distinguished Prof. Dr. Tariq Salahuddin. A pioneer of neurosurgery in Pakistan with global recognition, Prof. Tariq holds executive positions in several national and international societies, including the ACNS and WFNS. The session was attended by all faculty members and residents, reflecting a strong commitment to academic excellence and surgical advancement.

*Inauguration of Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office at Punjab Institute of Neurosciences*

Today marks a significant milestone in the academic and research journey of the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences with the inauguration of the *Almas Bashir Research & Editorial Office*. This dedicated facility—made possible through the generous philanthropic contribution of Dr. Almas Bashir—will serve as a hub for scholarly research, publication, and academic growth.

The ceremony was attended by esteemed faculty, post graduate residents and nursing staff. The Chief Guest, the Executive Director PINS, Prof. Asif Bashir and the Principal LGH/AMC/PGMI Prof. Farooq Afzal addressed the audience, highlighting the vision and significance of this initiative.

Neurosurgical Advances - Journal Club Presentation

The Department of Neurosurgery at Punjab Institute of Neurosciences conducted a journal club session today, featuring an excellent presentation by Dr. Hadeequa. Attended by both residents and faculty, the session sparked engaging discussions on, Effect of Pituitary Stalk Preservation during Craniopharyngioma Removal on Pituitary Function, Extent of Resection, and Recurrence: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

PINS & Besta Neuro Institute, Milan Sign Historic MOU for Neurosurgical Training*

Caption:
On May 6, 2025, PINS Lahore and Besta Neuro Institute, Milan signed a landmark MOU to launch a bilateral neurosurgical training exchange.

Senior residents from Besta will rotate at PINS, while senior registrars and faculty from PINS will receive hands-on neurosurgical training in Italy — with all arrangements fully sponsored by Besta.

Prof. Asif Bashir, Executive Director of PINS, called the collaboration a major milestone that will sharpen surgical skills and provide invaluable international exposure to Pakistani neurosurgeons.
