The activities use movement, pressure, and tactile input to meet the child’s sensory needs in a safe, structured way. Examples include jumping on a trampoline, climbing through a tunnel, using vibrating toys, bouncing on a yoga ball, and playing with sensory bins. These kinds of input can calm the nervous system, improve body awareness, and support attention.

Gross Motor Skill Development

Play functions as an experiential learning mechanism, allowing children to consolidate and reinforce cognitive schemas through embodied practice.

It is a notable contradiction that educators and caregivers frequently maintain a false dichotomy between learning and play, failing to recognize their intrinsic interdependence in fostering cognitive, motor, and socio-emotional development.

You’ll need painter’s tape to set this up!

We demonstrated how to adjust the difficulty using a pom pom and a hair tie. Feel free to swap in other items based on the child’s age and skill level.

This exercise works on visual tracking, focus, motor planning, hand-eye coordination, and core stability.

It’s also perfect for kids who tend to speed through tasks. They’ll have to move carefully, or they’ll drop what they’re holding.

The cerebellum, which is famous for controlling physical balance, also plays a role in maintaining emotional stability. He states, "The cerebellum controls how fast, how much, how consistently, and how appropriately our thinking and emotions function."

Sharing some vestibular activities I found for kids. Great for helping with balance and coordination. Has anyone tried similar stuff with their kids? Would love to hear your experiences!

Heavy work activities are one of the best tools to help children regulate.*

It’s straightforward: any activity with resistance for muscles and joints. Think pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, or carrying.

This sensory input helps kids feel calmer, more focused, and secure in their bodies.

*Try it to:*
- Help them recover after a meltdown
- Ease difficult transitions
- Get ready for sitting activities or schoolwork
- Relax before bedtime
- Provide support on overwhelming "off" days

Sharing a poster I came across about sensory overload and what it looks like in autism. It highlights signs like visual elements, sounds, common triggers, and ways to recognize it. Keeps the focus on understanding and empathy.
