What is Cancer?
Cancer is a broad group of diseases in which abnormal cells grow and divide uncontrollably, often invading and damaging surrounding healthy tissues. Many forms of cancer have the potential to spread to other parts of the body.
Did you know?
For women, incidence is highest for breast cancer.
For men, the highest incidence is for prostate cancer.
BUT.....
‘Cancer in general is becoming less of a death sentence and more of a treatable chronic disease’
Preventive actions that can be taken to reduce the risk of cancer:
1.Smoking and other forms of to***co use are associated with approximately 15 different types of cancer, such as lung cancer and liver cancer. Quitting to***co dramatically increases both life expectancy and overall quality of life.
2.Globally, around 16% of all cancers are caused by chronic infections. Vaccines that protect against hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human papillomavirus (HPV) can effectively prevent liver cancer and cervical cancer, respectively.
3. Regular physical activity and keeping a healthy body weight significantly reduce the risk of various cancers, such as colon cancer and kidney cancer.
4. Cutting back on alcohol consumption lowers the risk of several cancers, including those of the mouth, oesophagus, and breast.
