Normal Right kidneyReniform (bean-shaped) – This is the normal contour.
• Smooth, regular outer contour without bulges or indentations (except at the hilum).
2. Size:
• Normal adult right kidney length: 9 to 12 cm (slightly smaller than the left kidney, especially in right-handed individuals).
• Width: ~4–6 cm.
• Thickness (anteroposterior): ~3–4 cm.
• Note: Size may vary based on age, body size, and hydration status.
3. Appearance (Echotexture and Structure):
• Cortex: Hypoechoic or isoechoic relative to the liver or spleen.
• Medulla (Pyramids): Hypoechoic or anechoic compared to cortex.
• Central echogenic complex (renal sinus): Bright echogenic area due to fat and fibrous tissue.
• Corticomedullary differentiation (CMD): Clearly visible in a healthy kidney.
• No hydronephrosis (dilated collecting system), masses, or stones.
