55% of measles positivity rate is found in children from 09 months to 05 years in Punjab in 2024, Out of which 45% are unvaccinated children (Zero dose) indicating the importance of Routine immunisation. Being highly contagious, When these unvaccinated children gets infected with measles, they can transmit virus to lower age group as maternal antibodies are getting neutralise in early age (upto 04 months) makes above 04 months old children prone to get measles from infected children of higher age group (09 months to 05 years) in the same house (secondary attack rate). This results in increasing shift of measles infection under 09 months (36% positivity rate) in 2024.
There is a strong need to focus on Routine immunisation and upcoming Big Catch up (MR vaccination to all children below 05 years) to prevent infection in higher age group (09M - 5 Yr) which will ultimately protect lower age group (Herd Immunity).

Infant colic, also known as baby colic, is a common condition in infants characterized by:

1. Intense, persistent crying
2. Drawing up legs, clenching fists, and stiffening the body
3. Passing gas or bloating
4. Fussiness and restlessness

Typically, infant colic:

- Starts around 2-3 weeks of age
- Lasts for 3-4 months
- Occurs in the late afternoon or evening
- Persists for at least 3 hours a day, 3 days a week

The exact cause of infant colic is unknown, but possible triggers include:

- Swallowed air or gas
- Sensitivity to milk or food
- Overstimulation or tiredness

To soothe a colicky baby, try:

- The "5 S's": Swaddling, Shushing, Side/stomach position, Swinging, and Sucking (pacifier or thumb)
- Gentle motion (rocking, car ride)
- White noise or soothing music
- Avoiding overstimulation and ensuring adequate sleep

If your baby's crying persists or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, consult your pediatrician for guidance and support.
