PMDC Should Avoid Extreme steps Against Doctors
We agree that the young doctors who recorded the video at Lady Willingdon Hospital, Lahore, committed a wrongful act and should be held accountable. However, any punishment should be according to the nature of the offense and not beyond that.
The actions taken by the government appear overly aggressive and inappropriate. Doctors have already been suspended, including the Head of Department, who was not physically present and was not directly responsible for the incident. Furthermore, the government is now requesting PMDC to take additional action, including the suspension of their licenses to practice, which seems unfair and unjustified.
PMDC should carefully assess the situation and avoid taking any extreme or disproportionate measures. The doctors involved have already faced consequences, and it is hoped that they have realized their mistake. It is also expected that such incidents will not be repeated, either by them or by any other doctors in the future.
PMDC serves as a guiding and regulatory body for the medical community and should take into account that the recent social media driven campaign has demotivated and demoralized doctors. This situation should be viewed from that broader perspective.
