Hypothermia is when an animal's body temperature drops dangerously low. A pet's fur can only provide so much protection against cold and wet environments, and some pets will be more vulnerable due to illness or age.

So, what can you do to prevent hypothermia?

❄️ Ensure pets have access to shelter and a draught-free space with warm bedding (NEVER leave pets locked outside, especially in cold wet weather)

❄️ Dry your pet thoroughly after getting wet and ensure dogs that like a swim enter the water gradually to prevent shock

❄️ Provide a coat for dog walks for young pets, senior pets, arthritic pets, pets with thin fur and those with other health issues

❄️ Bring outdoor animals, such as rabbits, inside for the winter if possible

❄️ Don’t leave pets in a car, as the temperature can drop to outside levels very quickly.
