Department of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery Benazir Bhutto Hospital, organized the 1st FCPS/MS ENT preparatory course from 8th-10th June for which more than 60 participants from across the country appeared. The course was designed to provide an individualized learning experience for the candidates and provided them with the opportunity to perform Short Cases, TOACS, and Long cases in front of the esteemed senior faculty of ENT who provided them with valuable feedback that helps them to overcome their shortcomings and enhance their clinical knowledge.

Great Initiative taken by The White House to deal with issues of Hearing. All other countries must pay attention to this grieve morbidity. As per the Data available, Approximately 14.5 million Pakistani individuals have hearing loss but the actual numbers are way higher due to a lack of awareness and proper screening facilities. So National level initiatives must be taken for awareness, screening, and early intervention for Hearing related pathologies.

A 6 years old boy, referred from the ophthalmology department with the diagnosis of orbital cellulitis. The patient had a history of Dental infection 10 days back followed by orbital swelling 5 days back for which the patient presented to the ophthalmology department. Despite conservative management patient’s symptoms worsened with a decrease in vision and severe orbital pain. The patient was referred to ENT Department where an Emergency Trans-ethmoidal orbital decompression was done. 30 ml of pus was drained per operatively. Immediate post opp patient’s symptoms improved significantly.

On the occasion of World Hearing Day, the department of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery conducted a seminar and workshop on Neonatal Hearing Screening. During the seminar, the burden of childhood deafness and modalities for early detection was discussed. A workshop on otoacoustic emissions was conducted. Department of ENT Benazir Bhutto Hospital will be the first public sector hospital in Pakistan to start the Neonatal Hearing Screening Program.
