The role of a physical therapist is to provide specialized healthcare services aimed at improving and restoring physical function, mobility, and quality of life for individuals who have experienced injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. Physical therapists (PTs) are licensed healthcare professionals who work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, schools, and sports facilities. Their primary responsibilities include:

1. Evaluation and Assessment: Physical therapists conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients to assess their movement, strength, flexibility, balance, and overall physical condition. They analyze the patient's medical history and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to understand the individual's specific needs.

2. Treatment Planning: Based on the evaluation results, physical therapists develop individualized treatment plans that address the patient's unique condition and goals. These plans typically include therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, and other interventions to help patients regain functional abilities and reduce pain.

3. Therapeutic Interventions: Physical therapists administer a variety of treatments and interventions tailored to each patient's needs. These may include therapeutic exercises, stretches, joint mobilization, soft tissue techniques, heat and cold therapy, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound, among others.

4. Rehabilitation: PTs play a crucial role in post-surgical rehabilitation, helping patients recover from orthopedic surgeries, joint replacements, and other procedures.

5. Pain Management: They employ various techniques to manage pain and discomfort associated with injuries, chronic conditions, or surgical procedures. Through therapeutic modalities and exercises, physical therapists can help patients alleviate pain and improve their overall function.

6. Education and Training: Physical therapists educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment plans, and preventive measures to promote better overall health and minimize the risk of future injuries.

7. Functional Mobility Training: Physical therapists work with patients to improve their balance, coordination, and functional mobility, making it easier for them to perform daily activities and regain independence.

8. Prevention and Wellness: In addition to treating injuries and conditions, PTs also focus on preventive care and wellness. They may provide guidance on proper body mechanics, ergonomic adjustments, and exercise programs to reduce the risk of injuries and maintain overall health.

9. Sports Rehabilitation: Physical therapists assist athletes in recovering from sports-related injuries, developing customized training programs, and providing strategies to prevent future injuries.

10. Research and Professional Development: Many physical therapists engage in research and stay updated with advancements in their field to provide the best possible care and evidence-based treatments to their patients.

Overall, physical therapists play a vital role in promoting optimal physical function and enhancing the quality of life for their patients across various age groups and conditions. Their expertise is essential in helping individuals recover from injuries, regain mobility, and achieve their functional goals.

🔷 DE QUERVAIN'S TENOSYNOVITIS 🔷

🔘 TREATMENT:

◽ PHYSICAL THERAPY: STRETCHING and strengthening exercises guided to build strength in your wrist, hand, and arm
Also a SPLINT that will hold thumb and wrist firm and still. Probably wear it 24 hours a day for 4 to 6 weeks.
◽MEDICATIONS: over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or naproxen to ease the swelling.
◽STEROID INJECTIONS: into the tight covering, or sheath
◽SURGERY: The operation releases the tendon sheath so the tendon can move smoothly.

🔘 HOME REMEDIES and LIFESTYLE CHANGES:
◽Ice the area to ease inflammation.
◽Stop doing anything that makes it worse. Avoid repeated motions and pinching moves with the fingers and thumb.
◽Wear the splint as long as doctor told
◽Keep doing your exercises.

🔘 RECOVERY:
◽ In 4-6 weeks if you wear your splint, do your exercises, and avoid movements that irritate your tendon.
◽Recovery from surgery could take a while. pain and swelling should go away soon, but the area may be tender for several months. Get the stitches out in 10 to 14 days. Then physical therapy starts again for 6 to 8 weeks.
