Mono-sex tilapia provided by ABID RAFIQUE & COMPANY is very close to 100% male, so eliminating breeding during grow out and reduced culture periods to as little as 6 months. This is achieved by using a’ Hapa-based’, system involving mouth robbing of eggs from brood fish, artificial incubation of eggs and sex reversal of fry in hapas using methyl testosterone impregnated feed. Early research at the Asian Institute of Technology (A.I.T.) showed that fish produced by this technique have normal levels of sex hormones and are perfectly safe to eat. ABID RAFIQUE & COMPANY now supplies four subspecies and varieties of Nile Tilapia and three strains/kinds of Red Tilapia. All the strains have varying characteristics in one way or another, but they all grow fast, are tolerant of poor handling and have high disease resistance. Also available for supply is striped catfish (Pegasushy pothalamus) from May to November and our new product, Asian Sea Bass (Lattescalcarifer-barranmundi) trained to eat floating commercial pellets. They are highly recommended for clear water recirculation tank systems. Mono-sex Tilapia fry, 1” in size (0.2g) can be delivered by air to most large National or International airports or by road for journeys up to 40 hours. However, they have not yet undergone sex reversal and require higher level of expertise. Types of Tilapia
A brief introduction of these species of Tilapia is given as under:
Chitralada
Exhibiting very fast growth up to 250g, the Chitralada strain is our original and still ever popular strain of Nile tilapia. The fish is quite wide, long and narrow in shape, but meat yield is very high and it is now a popular fish worldwide. GIFT TALIPA
A strong fish exhibiting good growth up to a large size, the GIFT strain is now the most widely cultured strain of Nile tilapia in Thailand. The fish is short and fat in shape and is a little darker in color than all the other Nile tilapia strains. NAM SAI 1
Expect high survival from this very strong fish, as it is an F1 hybrid of the GIFT and Chitralada strains. Early growth is similar to the Chitralada, but it just keeps on growing fast to a large size. BIG NIN
A new arrival with high hope, the Big Nin is reported to be an advance GIFT strain that shows exceptional growth. It is much rounder in shape than our other Nile tilapia strains and meat yield is expected to be high. THAI RED
Red and round is the best way to describe this strain. Color might not be quite up to the Taiwanese red, but what it lacks in color it makes up for in body shape. Growth is similar to the Taiwanese red and 700g in 6 months is the norm. TAIWANESE RED
A very red strain with a Chitralada shape, the Taiwanese red is very popular with cage farmers who want a fast growing fish with good color. It is quite a strong fish and has high tolerance of poor water quality and salty river conditions. NAM SAI RED HYBRID
This F1 hybrid of the Thai and Taiwanese reds has become our biggest selling red tilapia since its introduction in early 2007. Although not dissimilar to the pure red strains in terms of color and shape, survival is significantly higher during the early rearing stages and growth is much more even between individuals. PANGASIUS
The striped catfish also known as Pangasius hypophthamus is a very hardy species cultured widely in Asia. The fish achieves 1.5kg within a year (from 0.5g) and is very tolerant of poor water quality and low dissolved oxygen levels (is a facultative air breather, so no aeration necessary). It is happy eating a wide range of food and is often raised on manures or waste feedstuffs. The flesh of the fish tends to be tinged with yellow and is high in lipid. Flesh quality can be controlled to a large extent by using selected feeds and low protein feed has been shown to reduce fat content and increase the shelf life of the meat. Striped catfish are most commonly raised in earth ponds, but cage culture has been very successful in Vietnam. The fish can also be raised successfully at high density in clear water recirculation systems, although the fish much prefer dank, murky, organic conditions. Results are best at high water temperature (30 C minimum). Within the last 10-20 years, the striped catfish has become popular with consumers in the U.S. as a cheap alternative to locally farmed channel catfish. Barramundi or Asian Sea Bass
They are a fast growing species, attaining 1-2” within a month of hatching and 1-2 kg within a year. They can attain a maximum size in excess of 20 kg and are a popular angling species due to their hard fighting abilities and the distinct “boof” noise they make when taking a lure. Their few bones and white flaky meat has made them a highly rated table fish and they are fast becoming a new global fish species. In Asia, it is most common to stock young barramundi fry (5 mm - 12 days post hatching) in fertilized earth ponds for nursery in either brackish or fresh water. They are fed on live Moina and trash fish postponement(stay/delay ) for a total period of 1 month before all the fish are harvested at a size of 1-2”. The fish are highly cannibalistic and survival rates typically vary between 10-50%. Alternatively they can be nursed in concrete tanks. This is more labour intensive, but enables early weaning onto commercial diets and better control over cannibalism. Although 12 day old fry at 5 mm in length are suitable for stocking in nursery, they don't travel long distances so well and we recommends that customers buy 10 mm fish aged 20 days which we have successfully sent on journeys up to 40 hours. During the cold season from Dec-Feb there is limited availability and prices are more expensive. Please allow 3 weeks for delivery of Barramundi. RAINBOW TROUT
This trout grows lately. We can provide this trout ova throughout the year for our farmers. BROWN TROUT
This brown trout developed with its beautiful shape and nice clear red spots has become a fast growing strain and very attractive for sport angling. We are able to deliver high quality and disease free eggs from mid December to mid March. SEA TROUT
The spotted sea trout OR speckled (SPOTTED,DOTTED) trout is a common estuarine fish found in the southern United States along coasts of Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Ocean. It is popular for commercial purposes and Adults reach 19-25 inches in length and up to 2 Kg weight. BROOK TROUT
Considered by some to be a better fish than Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout because of its good growth rate and feed digestibility. A game fish much sought after by sport anglers because of fighting abilities, and taste. We are able to deliver high quality and disease free eggs from mid November to end December. ARCTIC CHARR
Arctic char or Arctic Charr, is a cold-water fish in the family Salmonidae, native to Arctic, sub-Arctic and Alpine Lakes and coastal waters. It breeds in fresh water. The Arctic Char is closely related to both Salmon and lake trout. The fish is highly variable in colour, depending on the time of year and the environmental conditions of the lake it lives in. Individual fish can weigh 9.1 kg. Generally, whole market-sized fish are between 0.91 and 2.3 kg. The flesh colour can range from a bright red to a pale pink. Commercial Arctic char typically weigh between 1 and 4.5 kilograms. The Char diet varies with the seasons. During late spring and summer Char feeds on insects found on the surface of water, snails found in the lake bottom. During the autumn and winter months the Char feeds on freshwater shrimps and also occasionally feeds on smaller fish. Delivery of this trout can be possible in December
SPARCTIC TROUT
This trout is a cross breed between Lake (Artic) Char (Salvelinus salvelinus) and Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). A strong trout – is not so sensitive to the normal VHS-virus disease – have a good growth rate, normal feed uptake and digestibility. This trout is a good and strong fighter, and well known for a nice and tasty flesh quality. Main part of this trout matures at 3 years between 1 and 2 kg. Delivery of this trout can be possible from late November to end December
TIGER TROUT
This trout is cross breed between Brown Trout (Salmo trutta fario) and Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). It is a very popular trout for especially sport fishing .its delivery can possible from February to end March. GOLDEN TROUT
The golden trout or California golden trout is sub-specie of Rainbow Trout. The Golden Trout has golden flanks (edges) with red, horizontal bands along lateral lines and about 10 dark vertical, oval marks (called "parr marks"). Lateral and anal fins have white leading edges. In their native habitat, adults range from 6–12 in (15–30 cm) long. Golden trout that have been transplanted to lakes have been recorded up to 5 kg in weight. The Golden Trout is commonly found at elevations from 6,890 feet (2,100 m) to 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above sea level. Preferred water temperature is 58–62 °F (14–17 °C) but they can tolerate temperatures in degraded streams. Boer Goat Farming
The Boer goat is a breed of goat that was developed in South Africa in the early 1900s
They were selected for meat rather than milk production; due to selective breeding and improvement, the Boer goat has a fast growth rate and excellent carcass qualities, making it one of the most popular breeds of meat goat in the world. Boer goats have a high resistance to disease and adapt well to hot, dry semi deserts. Boer goats commonly have white bodies and distinctive brown heads. Some Boer goats can be completely brown or white. Like the Nubian goat, they possess long ears. They are noted for being docile, quiet, meek, obedient and fast-growing, and having high fertility rates. Does are reported to have superior mothering skills as compared to other goats. Mature Boer bucks weigh 110–135 kg and mature does weigh 90–100 kg. Boer can reach upto 150-170 kgs also. The primary market for slaughter goats is a 22–36 kg kid; kids should reach marketable size at weaning (when they feed) age. They reach sexual maturity at five months of age.
