Upper Crossed Syndrome (UCS) is a common postural imbalance seen especially in people who sit long hours (computer work, mobile use). It involves tightness of some upper-body muscles and weakness of others, forming a cross pattern of muscle imbalance.
1. Upper Crossed Syndrome is a muscle imbalance pattern affecting the neck, shoulders, and upper back, characterized by:
- Tight/overactive muscles
- Weak inhibited muscles
•This imbalance leads to forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and thoracic kyphosis. The term was described by Vladimir Janda, who studied muscle imbalance patterns.
