‘Hijama’ is a Arabic word derived from ‘Hajm’ which means ‘sucking’. Cupping (hijama) is the process of applying cups to various points on the body by removing the air inside the cups to form a vacuum.

Our Propeht Muhammed sallā-llāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam, confirmed the benefits of hijama, applied it and encouraged his companions to use it to heal themselves. “Today Hijama is widespread in the East and West—in China, India and in Europe and now it has spread to America in the last few years. Cupping reached Europe through Muslims who lived in Andalusia in Spain at a time when their knowledge was at the forefront of medicine.”
