HEPATITIS
is an inflammation of the liver. It can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-lasting), and is caused by various factors including viral infections, alcohol use, certain medications, toxins, and autoimmune diseases.
🔹 TYPES OF HEPATITIS (COMMON)
1. Hepatitis A – spread through contaminated food or water.
2. Hepatitis B – spread through blood, sexual contact, or from mother to child.
3. Hepatitis C – mainly spread through infected blood.
4. Hepatitis D – only occurs with Hepatitis B infection.
5. Hepatitis E – spread through contaminated water, mainly in poor sanitation areas.
🔹 GENERAL SYMPTOMS OF HEPATITIS
Symptoms may range from mild to severe and may include:
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Nausea and vomiting
Abdominal pain (especially in the upper right side)
Dark-colored urine
Pale stool
Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
Fever
Joint pain (especially in Hepatitis B)
Some people, especially in early stages, may have no symptoms.
🔹 CAUSES OF HEPATITIS
1. Viral Infections – Most common cause (Hepatitis A–E viruses).
2. Alcohol Abuse – Leads to alcoholic hepatitis.
3. Medications & Toxins – Certain drugs can cause liver inflammation (e.g., paracetamol overdose).
4. Autoimmune Disease – Body attacks its own liver cells.
5. Fatty Liver Disease – Can also cause liver inflammation.
