Why GSM alone doesnt mean good quality

When you are new its very normal to think

Higher GSM = better fabric

I used to hear this on almost every first call.

But GSM only tells you how heavy the fabric is It doesnt tell you how it will feel wear or behave after washing.

Two tshirts can have the same GSM and still be completely different

One feels soft and premium

The other feels rough and stiff

Same number. Different results.

GSM wont tell you

if the fabric will shrink

if it will start pilling

if it will lose shape

if it will feel nice on skin

What actually matters more is

yarn quality

how the fabric is knitted

finishing and wash process

what you are using it for tee hoodie activewear etc.

I have seen lighter fabrics perform better than heavier ones many times.

If youre starting out, Ask for fabric swatches, test wash them, wear them, abuse them a little.

Fabric quality is about behavior not numbers.

This understanding alone can save you a lot of money and disappointment early on.
