It can be done through incisions inside the nose (closed) or with a small external cut (open). The procedure aims to create better facial harmony, improve function (like breathing), or repair damage from injury, with recovery involving swelling and bruising that gradually subsides over weeks to months.

Pediatric Foreign Body Ingestion —
A silent danger in every house 🚨

A powerful reminder of how simple household objects can turn into life-threatening hazards for children within seconds.

This metallic object was removed from the esophagus of a young child after being accidentally swallowed.
On X-ray, it appeared sharply lodged at the upper esophageal level — a dangerous position that could easily lead to:
• Airway obstruction
• Mucosal injury or perforation
• Bleeding
• Mediastinitis
• Long-term complications if not managed promptly

As pediatric surgeons, we see these incidents far more often than people think. Children explore the world through their mouths — anything within reach can end up swallowed.

🧠 Key Message to Parents:
• Keep small objects out of children’s sight and hands.
• Never underestimate “just a small toy part.”
• If a child swallows an object or you suspect it — don’t wait. Seek medical care immediately.
• X-ray evaluation is essential, especially with metallic foreign bodies.
