Analgesics are medicines that help to control pain and reduce fever, and some types also decrease inflammation. Examples of analgesics that are available over the counter are: aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Ketoprofen and naproxen sodium.
Many analgesics should not be used if there is decreased kidney function, because they reduce the blood flow to the kidney. Also, long term use with higher doses may harm normal kidneys. It is important to realize that, while helpful, these medicines are not completely without risk, and they should be used carefully.
If you have decreased kidney function, painkillers called NSAIDs and higher dose aspirin are not recommended. Even with normal kidney function, you should use analgesics:
- Exactly as prescribed or as on the label
- At the lowest dose possible
- For the shortest period of time
The decision to take a pain killer to relieve pain is a personal choice and best made with informed healthcare provider.

A well-balanced diet with plenty of anti-inflammatory foods, such as green leafy vegetables, berries, ginger, nuts, legumes, and fibre, will reduce joint pain and maintain a healthy weight.This world arthritis day 2023, remember to avoid processed foods, fried snacks, excessive amounts of sugar and salt, smoking, and alcohol to lessen joint tenderness.

TIPS FOR FIGHTING ARTHRTIS:
1.Regularly engage in daily exercise for at least 30 minutes. Include joint-friendly activities like cycling, swimming, and walking in your routine.
2.Maintain a healthy weight to ease the strain on your joints.
3.Engage in yoga and meditation to help your muscles relax.
4. Apply ice packs or hot compresses to your joints if you experience excruciating joint pain to reduce inflammation.
