Mock Long Case Practice Examination Conducted in Collaboration with PIMH Lahore

Today, a Mock Examination of the Long Case was successfully conducted by the Department of Psychiatry, Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH), Rahim Yar Khan, in collaboration with Postgraduate Residents from Unit C of the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH), Lahore. This academic activity was held in a hybrid format as part of ongoing postgraduate education and training.

The session featured an in-depth Long Case presentation by Dr. Shehar Bano, a PGY-4 Psychiatry Resident at SZMCH. Faculty members from the Department of Psychiatry, SZMCH, along with Postgraduate Residents and Faculty from both institutions, actively participated in the discussion.

Comprehensive feedback was provided by the faculty, including constructive suggestions aimed at enhancing clinical reasoning and professional competencies. The session reflected a shared commitment to academic excellence and inter-institutional collaboration in psychiatric training.

🌟 Interactive Lecture on Depression at SZMC Rahim Yar Khan 🌟

Today, the Department of Psychiatry at Sheikh Zayed Medical College & Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan hosted a powerful interactive lecture on the horizontal perspective of Depression, facilitated by the renowned Prof. Dr. Ali Burhan Mustafa. 🧠💬

🔎 Key Insights Shared:
➡️ Global point prevalence of depression: 12.9%
➡️ 1-year prevalence: 7.2% | Lifetime prevalence: 10.8%
➡️ Alarming prevalence of depression in Pakistan: 44.74% 😢
➡️ Antenatal depression: 32.2% | Perinatal depression: 30-37%
➡️ Up to 28% of youth in low & middle-income countries, including Pakistan, face significant symptoms of depression or anxiety.

🛑 Why is depression so prevalent?
Social adversities like financial and housing difficulties, low education levels, and large family sizes are major culprits.
💔 Women are especially vulnerable due to factors like intimate partner violence, poor spousal relationships, and unintended pregnancies, which significantly increase the risk of perinatal depression.

💡 Breaking the Silence: Discussions like these are essential to foster awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental well-being. Together, let’s work to create a mentally healthier Pakistan! 💪🌈

Forensic Mental Health Certification Course (FMHC) 2024
Module 5: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Implications

On December 7, 2024, Dr. Nazish Imran led an engaging session on the forensic implications of neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders within the legal system. The discussion covered the impact of traumatic events on youth, evidence-based assessment strategies, and ethical considerations in juvenile justice. Interactive case scenarios and group discussions fostered a collaborative learning environment.

This activity is part of the Forensic Mental Health Certification Course 2024, organized by Queen’s University Canada in collaboration with King Edward Medical University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, the Psychiatry Department at SZMCH Rahim Yar Khan, the Pakistan Psychiatric Society, and Justice Project Pakistan.
