It was established in 2002 with a sanction of PKR 450 million. 30 seats allocated for the year 2003 in the Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore, which were shifted to the Sialkot Medical College in 2004. However because of local politics, the project was shelved. In April 2007, the President of Pakistan again announced the immediate construction of a Medical College, but the project is still in the pipeline. A temporary project office was established at Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital Sialkot which is also the attached teaching hospital. In 2010, the student enrollment was increased to 100 students per year for MBBS. The Government of the Punjab advertised tenders for construction of regular academic block and hostel building. The Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College is attached to the 400 bedded Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital Sialkot and 135 bedded Sardar Begum Memorial Hospital, Sialkot. In these hospitals, major specialties including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Eye, ENT, Gynecology, Urology, Orthopedics,Neurosurgery etc, are available. The teaching has got shifted to its own campus.
