PSHP x ICPS | 8th International Conference on Patient Safety
We’re excited to share the success of the 8th International Conference on Patient Safety, held in collaboration with the International Consortium for Patient Safety (ICPS)!

Two impactful pre-conference workshops were hosted by Tabba Heart Institute and Dow University of Health Sciences, bringing together a large number of pharmacists and other healthcare staff. The title of the workshop was Aseptic Excellence- Cutting Edge, IV Admixture lead by our core PSHP Members Aasma Hamid and Sumaira Khan.
The workshop highlighted the importance of:
• Best practices and Standards of establishing and running the IV admixture service
• The quality assurance and monitoring process
• The benefits of IV admixture program on hospital bottom-line and on patient safety
• and risk mitigation with aseptic compounding

Together, we’re fostering a stronger, safer healthcare system for all.

The award was presented to:
"Enhancing Safety & Accuracy: Designing and Validating a Custom-made Calculator for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) Preparation"
Rehan Anjum Pharm.D, MS, BCPS, BCID., sundus Awan, Salwa Ahsan, Umm e Farwa, Imran Ali (IT) (Shifa International Hospitals Limited)

This pharmacy software, an add-on to the hospital Pharmacy System Software, converts all macro and micro ingredients of TPN into uniform calculated volumes, osmolality, infusion rate and preparation recipe based on additive concentrations.
While similar software exists in the West and advanced practice environments, but this tool is specific to available products in Pakistan. It has helped pharmacists and technicians at Shifa International Hospitals Limited in eliminating the calculation errors in TPN, watch for safe dosing and volume limits and provide uniform, standardized worksheets and labels. Moreover it has drastically reduced the TPN preparation time.
