General Choi Hong Hi viewed learning and education in the context of martial arts as a process based on scientific principles and contemporary knowledge, which were to form the foundation of a new Korean martial art—Taekwon-Do.
Choi Hong Hi saw martial arts not only as a form of physical training, but also as a system of spiritual and moral values appropriate for Korean soldiers. He wanted to create a combat system based on 👊🏻 biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology, with a scientific approach to movements and techniques, which distinguished Taekwon-do from traditional Japanese martial arts such as karate.
He also introduced systematic and structured education, where the learning of techniques was combined with morality and philosophy of action. Martial arts were to be part of a comprehensive training program that shaped the body, mind, and spirit. His goal was for Taekwon-do students to develop perseverance, self-control, courage, and reliability — qualities needed not only for combat, but for life.
