Metamorphopsia is often the first thing patients notice – even when visual acuity is still normal.
Quantitative tools such as M-CHARTS show that metamorphopsia may be present in up to ~80–90% of eyes with neovascular AMD, despite preserved VA (Nowomiejska et al., 2013).
It is highly prevalent across macular diseases and significantly impacts daily functioning.
High-resolution SD-OCT frequently reveals the structural basis of these distortions – IRF/SRF, vitreomacular traction or early RPE and outer retinal changes.
