Eating from the land we nurture, the land we pray on and speak lovingly into. These radishes turned out huge. Often we think huge means artificial fertilizers. In this case it's just cow manure, and healthy volcanic soil. Living on the land of my maternal ancestors, where the rift valley formed with several volcanic eruptions the soul/soil of the earth is rich!

Hope you're eating well this summer, even if it's a few vegetables and fruits that are phalate free, herbicide, pesticide, chemical free and hopefully land you can offer prayers and sacred offerings.
🥗 I will be selling some of these radishes at a local farmers market
🥗 Eating lots in salad
🥗 Combining greens with kale, collards , Chard and local amaranth, jute and squash leaves
🥗 Making medicine- radishes are great antiinflammatory, antioxidant, sulphur based important in liver detoxification phase 1 and 2, good for respiratory health such as bronchitis and asthma and much more

Reishi mushroom. Ganoderma lucidum. A lucid mushroom, shiny and dreamy swirling me to sleep restoratively. Medicine of the woods to release inflammation, heat, and calm the nerves. Rejuvenating the nerves, the immune system and the lungs. Doesn't she look like lungs 🫁? Like kidneys? Like all the dualities in our bodies that once in a while require fine tuning? She's on my altar to remind us of harmony between the world's we slip and slide into. To balance our journeys between the realms.

🍃Sign up to come to Kenya next year March and walk with us in the magical forest. Tickets are discounted. It is a gathering for all lovers of herbs, healing and Afro indigenous exploration. 🔗 Link in bio🤎

With all that's happening world wide, meet
🍃Balanites aegyptica my neighbor. She has many common names including Egyptian Balsam, a native African used in the material medica both on the continent and in Arabian, Persian materia medica, she's an old old tree that shows our common bond and our sustained unity in herbal medicine. In Swahili we call her Mchunju my Senegalese student has taught me to call her Fulfulde in Pulaar. This plant is so diverse, heals everything from parasites, to increasing breast milk. The dates are delicious, the bark is used as a poison in hunting, the thorns are used for traditional tattooing.
We are living in changing times, know your medicines, have at least 10 that you use often, keep tinctures in stock, tinctures are best cause they're easy to deliver, endure harsh climates, have a long shelf life. The future is relying on the land, your community, your intuition, the ability to read the cosmos.
🍃If you receive my newsletters you have read much about this since last year.
🍃Well, human family, blessings from Africa, take time to tap in to your inner eye to guide your outer path. And hope to see some of you in West Virginia for our retreat. 🙏🏿

Bitter Melon is quite bitter but feels so good once ingested. Of course you can eat it, I like mine sauteed with sardines and black spicy beans. And you?

Commonly known as Mukuyu or Mugumo ( general, Luhya, Kikuyu), Oreteti (Maa), Sacred Fig Tree. 🌳 This is where we should be placing our prayers, our blessings and our gratitude. Here is were we make our petitions and release our baggage. Let's not cut hundred year old tree ancestors and go to the true temple, trees! All indigenous people make their offerings by trees. The true church 🌳
