In Traditional Chinese Medicine, healthy hair depends on Blood and Yin.

Blood nourishes the hair roots and scalp.
When Blood is weak, hair becomes thin, dry, brittle, sheds easily, or stops growing well.

Yin provides moisture, cooling, and depth.
When Yin is deficient, the scalp can become dry, irritated, the hair loses shine, and shedding increases, often with signs like restlessness, poor sleep, or feeling “burnt out.”

Over time, Blood and Yin deficiency can also reduce circulation to the scalp, meaning the hair simply doesn’t receive what it needs to stay anchored and strong.

This is why hair loss in TCM is often treated by deeply nourishing the body, not just stimulating the scalp.

In Chinese Medicine the non-corporal or travelling soul “Hun” is said to be housed in the liver. It perceives reality completely unfiltered by the intellect, which is only being formed with 7 years. Life impressions from 0 - 7 therefore directly enter the travelling soul and are stored in its memory. As dreams are associated with the travelling soul and the liver, those stored experiences can be shown during dreams and affect sleep therefore. It’s possible to open the memory of the travelling soul by using certian active points on the body, opening it the liver memory or using medical herbs to access it.

• Avoid heating foods: coffee, ginger, red meat, cheese, alcohol, chili
• Choose cooling meals: greens, cucumber, pear, mung beans
• No screens before bed
• Meditation + grounding activities
• Creative expression: dance, paint, movement

💧Deficient Yin – Waking during the night

Shallow sleep

From working as a paramedic to studying Asian Healing Arts and living in a Burmese Buddhist monastic clinic, with 19 - 20 years, treating monks and refugees, opening my private practice in Austria with 21 to treating in psychiatric and neurological rehabilitation in Austria with 26, to moving to Portugal and offering holistic treatments in my own practice now.
