When they grow up, I want fruits and veggies to be part of their normal every day food.
It’s much easier to buy a dollar Mac n cheese, or a can of chili with beans and I still do that from time to time, but I also want them to be used to seeing all kinds of colors in their food.
Today, Olivia helped me grocery shop and, as I was laying all the food in our table, she exclaimed with a twinkle in her eye, “it’s so pretty! It’s like we are eating the rainbow.” 🌈
She was right, there were green avocados, cucumbers, zucchini. There were yellow lemons and red tomatoes. There were orange cuties and peppers. There were brown kiwis and purple onions.
I hope that even when food is not exciting as the rainbow, she’ll just have found it “normal” to eat veggies and fruits.

🥬Ask them to pick a veggie they want to try at the store. Make trying a “new” thing part of the normal.
🍆 Have them help you cook the meal (my girls love the spiralizer). Kids that cook a meal are more likely to eat it.
🌽 Make fun shapes with the food.
🍊 Set the example. If they see you eating them, they will want to give it a try.
🍅my favorite tip (and how my parents kept me interested in veggies): help them learn what each veggies helps your body with (like onions are good for circulation and avocados for your brain).
What’s your kiddo’s favorite veggie?
