Anxiety always starts with a thought...

I think the most important thing to take from this diagram is to focus on the perceived threat. The perceived being the key word!
Most anxiety is due to a feared outcome, such as: I am not good enough, they won't like me, I will be embarrassed, etc. However, most of the time we worry about things that haven't happened yet. Or, we may overestimate how negatively it will impact us and underestimate our ability to cope.

Would it be that bad if you were embarrassed? How would you cope?

Do you have a fixed or a growth mindset?

"Mindset", by the psychologist Carol S. Dweck Ph.D., is one of my favourite books. It really opened my eyes to how I face day-to-day challenge and step backs.

Tomorrow I will share some tips on how to begin viewing failures as opportunities to grow rather than judging ourselves for not being good enough.

We all experience social anxiety from time to time. The first step to dealing with social anxiety is to become aware of the stages of your anxiety.

Some tips:
- Try to come up with ways of dealing with each stage. For example, for the preparation/anticipation stage, learn and practice relaxation techniques.
- Use visualisation exercises to expose yourself to the anxious situation and view yourself coping with the worst outcome and imagine being relaxed and calm - How would that feel and look like?
- Become aware of your thoughts and question them. For example – is making a fool of yourself really that bad? So what if you say something silly? How will you cope?

Dealing with social anxiety is not easy and takes a lot of practice!

Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy really is a powerful combination!!

How it works:
- CBT enables you to identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Becoming aware and challenging these, will help you break free from them and work towards positive coping strategies.
- hypnotherapy is then used to embed those positive ideas in your subconscious mind so that it becomes second nature to you.
