The two-day event brought together healthcare professionals, educators, and aspiring students to explore the latest improvements in primary care.

A standout presentation at came from Dr. Salman Al-Jerdi, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neurology Clerkship at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, who delivered an insightful lecture on a heavily prevalent topic: back pain.

His session engaged participants and nurtured their curiosity through an in-depth exploration of diagnostic approaches, key red flags for serious neurological conditions, and the neurological underpinnings of back pain—from spinal anatomy and physiology to the surrounding nerves and structures.

In addition, Dr. Al-Jerdi enriched the conference with a compelling presentation on "Dementia" during the Rapid Fire Clinical Pearls session.

We welcomed back our alumnus, Dr. Munjid Al Harthy, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center, who led a session on "A Pragmatic Evidence-Based Approach to Cancer Screening in the Primary Care Setting," using a case-based update at .

Dr. Al Harthy shared his expertise and the latest insights on cancer screening in primary care, covering key areas such as breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancer screenings.

He also shared his insights on “Life After Cancer: An Overview of Cancer Survivorship Principles for the Primary Care Physician” as part of the Rapid Fire Clinical Pearls session.

It was a great pleasure having Dr. Diala Steitieh, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, speak on "Common Cardiac Complaints: How Should We Evaluate Them?" at our WCM-Q alumni conference.

Her case-based discussion covered chest pain syndromes, syncope, and cardiac findings in young athletes, along with management strategies and counseling tips for safe physical activity. She also delivered a perceptive talk on "Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy" during the Rapid Fire Clinical Pearls sessions, sharing critical findings and information in neurology.

It was a great pleasure to have Dr. Tania Jaber, Consultant in Endocrinology at Hamad Medical Corporation and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, join us at the second Updates in Primary Care Conference to present on "Thyroid Function Testing: When to Treat and When to Watch.”

She gave us an in-depth overview of the thyroid function panel, its clinical significance, and various thyroid conditions, outlining subclinical hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Dr. Jaber also identified potential substances and conditions that could interfere with thyroid function tests (TFTs) and management. Through her keynote, Dr. Jaber addressed the management of thyroid dysfunction, emerging strategies to improve compliance, pathways in Qatar, and when to refer to an endocrinologist

We are proud to have had Dr. Tariq Chukir, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, contribute to as a course co-director and speaker, delivering his presentation, "Updates in Type 2 Diabetes," and sharing valuable insights on "Obesity" during the Rapid Fire Clinical Pearls panel session.

Given the growing burden of type 2 diabetes in Qatar, Dr. Chukir highlighted the latest trends in screening, diagnosis, and management, emphasizing emerging pharmacotherapies and strategies to improve diabetes care in the region.

We were honored to have Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, Vice Dean for Academic and Curricular Affairs and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, inaugurate the second edition of the Updates in Primary Care Conference 2024.

Dr. Arayssi also delivered the opening keynote, "RA in Focus: From Diagnosis to Collaborative Management."

She highlighted the clinical manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), compared it to other inflammatory arthropathies, and stressed the importance of accurate diagnosis. Dr. Arayssi also discussed non-pharmacological strategies and Qatar's care models for supporting RA patients.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Arayssi for her steadfast support of the Updates in Primary Care Conference, and we look forward to her valued participation next year.
