The Enigma of the Arjan Bowl

In the heart of a construction site near Behbahan, Iran, 1982, the Marun Dam revealed more than just earth and stone. A bulldozer, disturbing a long-silent rock tomb, unveiled a collection of ancient treasures, among them the Arjan Bowl—a bronze artifact dating back to between 800 and 500 BC. Encased within a tomb sprawling across 3.75 square kilometers, this find included a bronze coffin, golden adornments, and assorted vessels, narrating tales from a civilization long past.

The Arjan Bowl itself is a canvas of historical narratives, intricately adorned with the "Flowers of Sixteen Feathers" motif. This design, evoking the image of a sunflower, has stirred the imagination of researchers far and wide. Drawing connections to the Lotus flower and the use of sacred numbers, the bowl hints at a deeper, symbolism, the symbols of the Achaemenids and Anahita —a whisper from ancient times about the interconnectedness of life and spirituality across different cultures.
