For Western and Choiseul Provinces public, there will be a colorectal( s*k lo bel and toilet) visit to Gizo Hospital from February 22nd to 26th. For bookings come in at the hospital or email Dr Buin on MBuin@moh.gov.sb for review prior to teams arrival.

It's been a great week of surgery. Thanks to Dr Douglas Pikacha, Dr Kaeni Agiomea and Mr Homeless Manetore for coming over. Thanks also to.Dr Deanray Mark for the ED/OPD cover for the week. Thanks to the management, local doctors and nursing staff for the hard work. 49 surgeries, 2 upper GI endoscopy and 1 colonoscopy in 5 days. Leana hola.

Covid 19 is real people. Our neighbours in PNG are seeing an increase in cases. Please continue to practice the prevention strategies of social distancing, hand washing and cough etiquette.

Work must go on. A surgical electives week is confirmed for March 22nd to 26th 2021. For bookings come to surgical clinics every Mondays and Fridays 9am onwards. Gynaecology(womens) electives week happening in April 2021. Do come for screening at the Drs clinic or even surgical clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

The Gizo Hospital team have received medical gifts worth AUD10,000. Gifts range from crutches, to operating theatre equipments, gowns and wears, kids toys, books and medical trolleys. A big thanks you to our friends and volunteers from Australia, Dr Narko Tutuo, and your team, for the gifts to Gizo Hospital. We hope to get over this pandemic soon so that you can come and visit us again.

To all overseas medical students booked for electives at Gizo Hospital for 2021, due to the ongoing travel restrictions and threat of covid 19, all medical electives for this year are cancelled until further notice. Despite the rollout of covid 19 vaccines in certain countries, the electives cancellation still is in effect. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Last surgical week for the year done!! . 53 surgical operations done in 5 days, 2 booked for Sunday. Its been a great week of safe surgery and anaesthesia. Thanks Dr Douglas Pikacha and Dr Kaeni Agiomea for doing what you do best, lead by serving and mentoring. Thanks Dr Florence Fiuramo and anaesthetic nurse Homeless Manetore for helping out, and lastly, thanks to the home team, Gizo Hospital Director, Dr Dickson Boara and management team. A big thanks to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Anaesthetic team from NRH for another successful week of surgery. The majority of patients are women who came over to Gizo from Choiseul Province. Thanks Dr Benjamin Koete, Dr Anna Manepuri and Dr Una Gagahe, and nurses Homeless Manetore and Rachel Repe. Thumbs up to the home team for the support. A big thank you to the Regional Eye Centre team for the week long tour to Gizo Hospital, restoring sight to the people of Western and also Choiseul Province. Thanks Drs John Szetu for leading and mentoring the team. Thanks to Dr Carole Poloso Misi, Dr Matthew Bonnie, the REC nurses, Sr Heather Pana from Helena Goldie, Munda and the Gizo OT nurses for making the visit a success. Thanks for putting a smile on our patients. The visit coincides with the World Sight Day last week. The eyes have it. Leana Hola.
