Background:
A special education Teacher (SPED) teacher is specifically employed to work with disabled children and young adults who need extra support, or require an advanced program of education, in order to complete their learning successfully. SPED teachers may work with individuals who are physically disabled, sensory impaired (i.e. deaf/blind), have speech and language difficulties such as dyslexia, have a mental disability such as autism or down syndrome are emotionally vulnerable, have behavioral difficulties or have a combination of these disabilities.
A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.
Typical work activities
The work of an SPED teacher is often challenging and varied and may involve:
teaching either individuals or small groups of pupils within or outside the class that have disabilities
preparing lessons and resources .
Making educational assessments and testing marking and assessing work developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils using special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning using specialist skills, such as using sign language and lip reading to students who have hearing impairments collaborating with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum assessing children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs liaising with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists liaising closely with parents and guardians organizing learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events assisting in severely disabled pupils' personal care/medical needs administration, including updating and maintaining records on pupils' progress Creating and implementing IEPs (individual Educational Plans) receiving in-service training behavior management organizing special events
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
1. B.ED in Special education OR Bachelors of Education AND diploma in special education
2. Should have a minimum of 3 years working experience
3. Should be female
4. Should be single (single, divorced or widowed). We do not have facilities for families
5. Must be able to speak, read and write English
6. CVs must be submitted in English. Educational documents must be submitted in Arabic with English translation.
Our offer:
1. Working hours: 7am-2pm and 4pm to 8pm
2. salary 250 RO (200 basic and 50 RO allowances)
3. Evening pay: 3 RO per contact hour. (teaching hours)
4. Shared housing with other female staff
5 Ticket back to Sudan every two years
6. 30 day annual leave after completing one academic year.
7. Basic medical coverage. Doctor’s consultation from one of our approved clinics. 50 Ro medication allowance per year. Does not include hospitalization, eye, dental care or maternity. Also does not include pre-existing conditions.
