The Mycetoma Research Center Scientific Committee is thrilled to announce the appointment of two remarkable leaders as Mycetoma Ambassadors 2025:

🔹 Dr. Fabiana Alves – NTD Leishmaniasis–Mycetoma Cluster Director, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi)
🔹 Dr. Borna Nyaoke-Anoke – Head, The Mycetoma Programme, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi)

Following up on our amazing webinar yesterday, here are the key calls to action that emerged from the discussions with our partners, including World Health Organization (Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office), Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), and Mycetoma Research Center!

This event truly embodied the spirit of 'Unite, Act, Eliminate' for , a chronic neglected tropical disease. It was so inspiring to see experts come together to push forward solutions for this global health challenge.

Yesterday's regional webinar was a fantastic success, bringing together incredible partners and experts! Organized by the World Health Organization (Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office), in partnership with the Mycetoma Research Center, and Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi).

We heard truly insightful presentations from two leaders dedicated to fighting mycetoma, a chronic neglected tropical disease:

Professor Ahmed Fahal, Director of the Mycetomna Research Center Mycetoma Research Centre, shared MRC's invaluable experience in holistic mycetoma management, highlighting innovative approaches and major strides in improving patient quality of life, even amidst challenges.

Dr. Borna Nyaoke-Anoke, Head of the Mycetoma Programme at DNDi, discussed DNDi's crucial work, including the remarkable progress from the first double-blind clinical trial and ongoing projects that are accelerating efforts to reduce the mycetoma burden.

Prof. Ahmed Hassan Fahal met with Prof. Hisham El-Ghazali, Director of the Medical Research Center, Faculty of Medicine (MASRI) – Ain Shams University, to explore opportunities for collaboration between their institutions. During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen joint scientific research initiatives, promote the exchange of expertise and resources, and develop comprehensive training programs for staff and researchers.
