The autumn school term is now well underway. 🍁🍂
Below are some of the emotional and behavioural indicators that a child or teenager may exhibit following experiences of sexual abuse.

• Having nightmares or night terrors
• Bed wetting
• Being withdrawn from activities they used to enjoy participating in
• Pretending to be unwell
• Refusing to go to school
• Becoming argumentative and irritated easily
• Depression and anxiety
• Self-harming
• Self-loathing
• Running away from home
• Drug and alcohol misuse

As children transition into adolescence, some of the indicators listed may merely reflect the challenges associated with muturation.However, every childhood is valuable and deserves to be protected. Therefore, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our efforts to combat this heinous crime against minors within our local communities.

The Summer break is officially over & the autumn school term has began. I hear the sigh of relief from many parents. With both parents working within many households, the summer break can turn into a childcare nightmare....
Family friends, neighbours, extended family, babysitters, summer clubs, childminders, older siblings, the list can continue.
You would never put your child in danger, intentionally, right?
But let's talk about the moment your childminder calls in sick, and you are stuck at work, its stressful!
You think of the lovely older couple next door, that have offered to help look after your child if you get stuck.They have raised their children and they are now adults living their own lives. Its only for this afternoon....
You pick up the phone and call them..... all sorted. Phew!!
But you would never intentionally put your child in danger!

The school summer break is a great time for students to unwind and enjoy themselves after a long school year.
But for many children and teenagers the long school summer break can be a challenging and distressing time particularly if they are in an abusive environment. Which can be physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
For these children and teenagers, the absence of a structured and safe environment which the school day provides.
It is a real struggle, as their abuser could be the person their parents are trusting the day to day childcare with during the long school summer break.
This can leave the child feeling powerless, isolated and unsure how to seek help.
The Teddy Help and Advice Group UK crisis phone lines are open 24/7 creating a safe platform for children to speak about their experiences of child abuse, and receive the help and support that is required, for the child victim and their family.
As we are a very new non-profitable business we are in need of donations, so we can keep our phone lines open throughout the long school summer break, without any interruption so calls can be answered at anytime a child reaches out for help.
All our volunteers are enhanced DBS checked and trained in safeguarding of children to the highest level, which also puts a financial strain on our limited resources.

If you could forgo a cup of your favourite coffee, or chilled summer drink once throughout the long school summer break and donate to the Teddy Non-Profit Organisation. That would be amazing!

For the price of one cup of coffee - we will be able to keep a highly trained volunteer available to answer our crisis phone line for a 6 hour shift!!
