Min systers tehus

Dear friends and tea-lovers,

More than ten years ago we fell in love with our idea of a company named Min Systers Tehus, a company selling tea of high quality that we couldn’t find in any stores, cafés or restaurants. Coming from complete other disciplines the learning curve was steep and the journey long. When we finally found the organic tea plantation in China growing our favorite tea Long Jing, we were so happy. Then we found organic black tea in Sri Lanka and organic herbal tea from Europe. We selected the tea carefully, based upon the taste, the quality and the health benefits.

We worked together with our dear Hanna Werning who designed the logo, the labels, the tins. It was just so much fun working with her, being on her side in the creative process, in her beautiful atelier. It took time to link the whole production chain, the flow of the products from plantation to you. It was still in the early days of online shopping. So many people saying it wouldn’t work, so many others cheering on our side. Oh, dear the struggles we had with customs, Livsmedelsverket, organic certification and more. It never really felt that they were on our side, rather the opposite. We can share so many stories that would make you laugh and cry, stories about what happened navigating in an often weird system.

During the years we have done numbers of Tea Tasting, Tea Makers Dinners, Tea Meditation, and we have loved every second of it. Working together as sisters, sharing our passion with others, has been pure joy.

As this year concludes, so does the journey of Min Systers Tehus. After a decade of hard work, love and passion, we have decided to close down.

We would like to thank you, cheering friends, families and tea-lovers, for buying, enjoying and drinking our tea. We would be nothing without you. Thank you!

We would love to give you a last chance to buy what is left of our favorites at half the price – Long Jing, Tie Guan Yin and Chamomile, both in tin and refill, before we close down fully – January 15, 2024.

We wish you a happy New Year 2024 filled with many moments of fantastic tea.

Love,
Maria and Pernilla

Read about Panzi Hospital, Dr Mukwege and my sister Maria Hogenäs work in Congo in the latest Faktum. It is a great article about a tremendously important work where women, birth, children, peace and overcoming trauma are in the centre. True peace work that matters and creates impact for real. I’m so proud of you sister! When you buy tea from us, parts of the money goes to the work in Panzi.

Happy and delightful 2022 from us sisters

We just want to start this year in gratitude. We bow in deep gratitude to all of you that have contributed in different ways to Min systers Tehus through out this last year, 2021. You have all supported us through buying our tea, attending our tea meditations, tea tastings, arranging events for us and with us and served or sold our teas. You might have liked and shared our postings, talked about us to friends or offered our tea to someone close to you.

It's thanks to each and every one of you that we are able to continue our passion for tea and give back through our foundation to the Panzi Hospital, the heart of our foundation during 2021. We are deeply touched.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy year full of beautiful tea moments,

Pernilla and Maria

Watch the Long Jing leaves become alive in the water, dancing down to rest at the bottom. You know you never need a strainer for green tea, it develops and sinks by itself. 🍵

'Make tea, not war' is a famous quote by Monty Python loved by us pacifist tea drinkers. It seems so much smarter, so much easier to invite someone for tea to discuss the disagreements instead of creating a war. Easy to point at the world around us, at leaders who should do things differently. Bu...

Water

You recognize the feeling in your body when you hear the sound of water in nature; the grounding sensation water can give you, whether you are next to the powerful big sea, a small lake, rushing river or rippling stream. Water effects our bodies, calms our senses, soothes our mind. Water does not only affect us humans but everything that grows, lives, our whole planet. Water is essential for everyone and everything.

Water is the Mother of tea. The quality, the freshness of the water effect the tea, its taste and sensation. To get the best out of our high quality tea use fresh water. When you drink it, enjoy!

Enjoy!

Water – The Mother of Tea
by Min Systers Tehus

Rippling freshwater from the mountain springs is the ultimate water for brewing a cup of tea. It is also said that slow moving mountain water perfectly reveals the essence of a high-quality tea. If the tea plants have grown near the same slow-moving mountain spring, they become exquisite.

In China, water is called the ”mother of tea”.

Water quality is vital. Pure water has neutral PH. The closer the water gets to neutral the tea flavour is better revealed. The neutrality of water is balancing the tea that is mildly acidic. So, to honor a high-quality tea, pour fresh, neutral, newly boiled water over the tea leaves.

The beauty of tea is the beauty of water.

Water without roots, never having touched the earth, is also beautiful for the tea. In ancient China, the water from melted snow, rain, hail, or dew was collected for tea brewing as it is softer and has less minerals.

Fresh water has a healthy amount of oxygen that help infuse the tea leaves to a fully flavored brew. Boiling the water several times or keeping it in a kettle depletes the oxygen.

Hard water that contains magnesium and calcium creates a bitter taste and reduces the true taste of tea. In fact, minerals in water can react with antioxidants and reduce the nutritional value of tea.

Tea is an art, science, and alchemy. An invitation to an ever-deepening journey to learn more and to taste more.

Releasing Stories of Bitter Teas

Written by Maja Milanovic Maja Milanovic

As a sip of a slightly bitter green tea awakens my taste receptors, an image of a nine year old girl with a long braid falling down her spine appears in front of me. The image comes from a play that I once read in the American Theater Magazine; I don’t remember the author or the name of the play, but the story of the girl is clear. It takes place in a country in which tea symbolizes the passage of time, in another century.

A sublime experience touched a new dimension, non-explored. Surprisingly, the tea opened our chests, and we were sinking into the moment holding onto our cup of tea in our hands. How easy can it be to be guided into a peaceful moment?

A life changing realization that needed to be shared.

The Long Jing tea needed to be offered in Sweden.
