Myth vs Fact about Acne 🤓

1. Acne isn’t a result of poor hygiene. It’s caused by internal factors like hormones, excess oil, clogged pores, and inflammation. Washing too aggressively can actually irritate the skin and worsen breakouts.

2. Acne is not limited to adolescence. Many adults experience breakouts due to hormonal fluctuations, stress, or other triggers later in life.

3. Popping pimples can worsen acne by spreading bacteria, causing more inflammation, and increasing the risk of marks and scars.

4. The sun doesn’t heal acne. It can dry pimples temporarily, but UV rays increase oil production, clog pores, and trigger inflammation. Over time, sun exposure worsens breakouts, leads to pigmentation, premature aging, and raises the risk of skin cancer.

5. Makeup doesn’t make acne worse when used correctly. Choosing non-comedogenic products and removing them properly helps keep pores clear and skin healthy, so makeup can be worn without aggravating breakouts.

1. Sunscreen doesn’t block vitamin D in practice. Enough UVB light reaches the skin for a healthy vitamin D production while still protecting the skin.

2. UVA rays pe*****te windows and can damage the skin indoors. That’s why sunscreen is important even inside, people who drive a lot often develop more sunspots and sun damage on the side of the face exposed to the window.

3. Dark skin is naturally more protected but not immune. UV rays can still cause DNA damage, uneven pigmentation, premature aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer. Sunscreen helps prevent all of these.

4. Up to 80% of UV rays pass through clouds. UVA rays stay strong year round, causing aging, pigmentation, and skin cancer. UV also scatters and reflects, so sunscreen is essential even on cloudy days.

5. Some believe sunscreen increases skin cancer risk, but this is a myth. Sunscreen protects against UV rays the main cause of DNA damage, sunburn, and skin cancer. Research shows that regular use actually lowers the risk of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
