⭐️ Pain Camp 2025 Highlights ⭐️

This year’s Pain Camp, organised by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), was filled with learning, laughter, and lots of heart. From inspiring talks and hands-on activities to heartfelt conversations, it was truly special!

We’ve put together a short video that captures the spirit of camp — with snippets of the action, behind-the-scenes moments, and interviews with our amazing committee (who have been with Pain Camp since the very beginning!) as well as our participants.

Watch the video and relive the magic — or see what Pain Camp is all about if you’re curious!

Invitation to Participate in Research Study:

Hi, I am a final year student, and I am writing to invite you to take part in a research study that I am conducting as part of my Honours Thesis in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This study has been reviewed and approved by the Department Ethics Review Committee (DERC).

The purpose of the study is to explore how healthcare professionals (allied health therapists, doctors, nurses, etc) treat patients who present with functional pain disorder symptoms in clinic.

Functional pain disorders are chronic pain conditions where the pain is not fully explained by tissue damage or other identifiable medical conditions. They tend to be associated with significant emotional distress or functional disability. Examples include fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, temporomandibular disorders, and chronic primary pain.

I am interested in the strategies which are employed to make clinical judgement when one is faced with uncertainty.

If you choose to participate, I would request your consent to take part in an interview lasting approximately 45 minutes. The interview will involve discussing your experiences, views, and professional practices related to functional pain disorders.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may decline to participate or withdraw from the study at any point without any penalty or negative consequences. All information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for research purposes. Your identity will not be disclosed in any research reports or publications arising from this study.

If you are interested or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at 📝 julianongjc@u.nus.edu. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Julian Ong
