People often misunderstood practising self-compassion as giving ourselves the excuse not to do well in life or that we are feeling sorry for ourselves. For the longest time, there is a common belief among us that if we aren’t blaming and punishing ourselves when we make mistakes, we become too proud, too complacent, too arrogant.
The opposite is true. Research proves false many of the common myths about self-compassion that keep us trapped in the prison of relentless self-criticism.
In fact, there’s now an impressive and growing body of research demonstrating that relating to ourselves in a kind, friendly manner is essential for emotional wellbeing. When we are able to harness the 3 elements of self- compassion, namely mindfulness, self kindness and common humanity, we often are….
✨️ happier, more optimistic, able to cultivate gratitude and have better social connections with others
✨️Less stressed, depressed and anxious because self compassion is the antidote to self-criticism
✨️More resilient as we can bounce back easily from setbacks and are more likely to learn from our mistakes
To those of you embarking on your self-compassion journey, I see you. 💚
