✨ Sitting too long can be a pain in the butt… literally.
You might be dealing with Piriformis Syndrome 👇🏻

🌀 What is it?
The piriformis is a small but mighty muscle deep in your buttocks that helps you walk, turn, and shift your weight. When it tightens up or gets irritated, it can press on the sciatic nerve — leading to pain, numbness, or tingling that travels from your butt down the back of your leg.

⚡ Common causes
• Hours of sitting (yep, desk jobs & long drives 🚗)
• Overuse or intense exercise 🏃
• Sudden injuries or awkward movements

👀 Symptoms to watch out for
• Pain in your buttocks (worse when sitting too long)
• Tingling or numbness down the leg
• Tender or tight muscles around the hip and glutes
• Pain that worsens with activity

💡 How we help
• Hands-on therapy to release tension & boost circulation
• Modalities like ultrasound, electrotherapy & cryotherapy ❄️ to calm muscle spasms
• Targeted stretches + strengthening for hips, hamstrings & piriformis
• Movement retraining & lifestyle tweaks so the pain doesn’t come back

👉🏻 Don’t ignore that “pain in the butt.” With the right care, Piriformis Syndrome is treatable and manageable.

Tennis Elbow is usually unrelated to Tennis but occurs due to repetitive strain of the wrist/arm.

What is Tennis Elbow?
▫️The elbow joint is a joint made up of three bones namely the upper arm bone (humerus) and the two bones in the forearm (radius and ulna).
▫️There are bony bumps at the bottom of the humerus called epicondyles, where several muscles of the forearm begin their course. The bony bump on the outside (lateral side) of the elbow is called the lateral epicondyle.
▫️Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis is a painful strain injury that happens when the tendons, mainly the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) in the elbow, become inflamed due to overloading or degeneration by usual repetitive motions of the wrist and arm.

What causes Tennis Elbow?
▫️Tennis Elbow usually develop over time and often due to overuse or repeated contraction of the forearm muscles that are used to straighten and raise the hand and wrist.
▫️The repeated motions and stress to the tissue may result in a series of tiny tears in the forearm muscles attached to the lateral epicondyle.
▫️This pain can spread into the forearm and wrist. ⁣⁣

Symptoms of Tennis Elbow
▫️Pain that radiates from the outside of the elbow into the forearm and wrist.
▫️Increased pain or difficulty when using the wrist and hand for everyday activities (i.e. turning a doorknob, holding a coffee cup, gripping objects, or opening a jar).
▫️Elbow stiffness.
▫️Weakness in the forearm, wrist, or hand.

Treating Tennis Elbow
▫️Manual therapy helps to reduce tightness in the soft tissue and joints to enable the joints and muscles to move more freely with minimal pain.

▫️Kinesio taping and modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound and Cryotherapy may be utilised to help improve blood flow to the tendons.

▫️Exercises that stretch and strengthen the forearm muscles will be prescribed to improve healing. As the pain decreases, functional training and tips on changing tennis strokes will be advised.

If in doubt, please seek professional advice.

Around 1 in 5 pregnant women experience mild discomfort in the back or front of the pelvis during pregnancy.

What is Pregnancy Related Girdle Pain (PPGP)?
▫️Pregnancy Related Girdle Pain (PPGP) is characterised as pain in the front or the back of the pelvis that can also affect other areas such as the hips or thighs.
▫️The pain can also affect the Sacroiliac joints at the back or the Symphysis P***s joint at the front.
▫️This condition usually happens during pregnancy or starts soon after delivery.

What causes Pregnancy Related Girdle Pain (PPGP)?
▫️Pregnancy Related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PPGP) is usually caused by the joints moving unevenly which can lead to the pelvic girdle becoming less stable and therefore painful.
▫️As the baby grows in the womb, the extra weight and the change in the way of sitting or standing will put more strain on the pelvis.
▫️This condition is also more likely to happen to those with a history of back problems, previous pelvic injuries, or have Hypermobility Syndrome.

Symptoms of Pregnancy Related Girdle Pain (PPGP)
▫️Clicking, locking, or grinding in the pelvic joints.
▫️Pain in the front or the back of the pelvis, buttocks, groin, and/or radiating into the thighs.
▫️ Pain made worse by movement, for example walking on uneven surfaces or walking for long distances.

Treating Pregnancy Related Girdle Pain (PPGP)
▫️Manual therapy helps to restore normal joint and soft tissue movement, by relaxing tight or stretched muscles in the lower back, core, hips, and glutes, which most pregnant women experience during and after pregnancy.

▫️A customised program of core and pelvic floor strengthening exercises will also be provided, along with practical home exercises and lifestyle modifications. These are tailored to reduce pain during everyday activities.

If in doubt, please seek professional advice.

Repetitive movements and activities that require bending the knee a lot can lead to Runner's Knee.

What is Runner's Knee?
▫️Runner’s Knee or Chondromalacia Patella is one of the most common causes of chronic knee pain.
▫️It is an abnormal softening of the cartilage on the underside of the patella (kneecap) due to pain in the front of the knee.
▫️Runner’s Knee results from degeneration of cartilage due to poor alignment of the patella as it slides over the lower end of the femur (thigh bone). This process is sometimes referred to as Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS).

What causes Runner's Knee?
▫️Any imbalance in muscle attachments to the patella can cause excess friction against the knee joint, leading to deterioration in the patella, and resulting in Runner’s Knee.
▫️Other causes such as tightness or weakness of the muscles associated with the knee, too much activity involving the knee, and Flat Feet may increase the likelihood of this condition.

Symptoms of Runner's Knee
▫️Pain located at the front of the knee, around or behind the patella.
▫️Pain may be brought on by sitting with the knees bent for long periods.
▫️Grinding feeling or noise when the knee moves (crepitus).

Treating Runner's Knee
▫️Manual therapy helps to reduce the pressure on the patella and joint.

▫️Complementary modalities such as Therapeutic Ultrasound and Cryotherapy may be incorporated to reduce any swelling.

▫️Strengthening exercises for the quadriceps, hamstrings, adductors, and abductors will be prescribed to help improve muscle strength and balance.

▫️Isometric exercises that involve tightening and releasing the muscles will be prescribed to maintain muscle mass.

▫️Kinesio taping of the patella may be done to reduce pain as it helps alter the alignment or the way the patella moves.

If in doubt, please seek professional advice.

Infant Torticollis usually affects 1 in 4 babies & infants.

What is Infant Torticollis?
▫️Infant Torticollis or wry neck is a condition where a baby's neck muscles are tight and in spasm, causing the head and neck to bend and turn to one side.
▫️In the majority of cases, the top of their head may be tilted to one side and their chin may be tilted to the other side.
▫️This condition can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in infancy or childhood (acquired).

What causes Infant Torticollis?
▫️Infant Torticollis happens when the Sternocleidomastoid muscles (SCM) that connect the breastbone and collarbone to the skull are shortened.
▫️As the baby’s neck muscle is shortened on one side of the neck, it pulls their head into a tilt or rotation.
▫️Often, this muscle is shortened or tightened by abnormal fetal positions, injury during birth, or abnormalities or bone problems in the neck portion of the spine.

Symptoms of Infant Torticollis
▫️Baby's head is tilted to the right or the left.
▫️Flattening of the head and face due to preference of head position.

Treating Infant Torticollis
▫️Gentle manual therapy will be done to the myofascial tissues to release muscular shortness and tightness. This can help restore motion to the tightened side of the neck, trunk, or back.

▫️Neck movements and stretches will be included to aid in improving range of motion. Muscle strengthening and functional activities will also be incorporated to promote symmetrical muscle development for head and neck control.

▫️ If there are any head shape issues, recommendations about how to decrease any flatness that may be present will be provided as well.

If in doubt, please seek professional advice.

Did you know - Sciatica affects nearly 40% of us? 🧐🤯⁣

What is Sciatica?
▫️ Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the Sciatic nerve, which branches from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg.
▫️ The Sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body that controls several muscles in the lower legs and supplies sensation to the skin of the foot and the majority of the lower leg.

What causes Sciatica?
▫️This condition commonly occurs when the Sciatic nerve becomes pinched usually by a Herniated Disc in the spine or Spinal Stenosis (bone spur) on the vertebrae.

Symptoms of Sciatica
◽️ Lower back pain that extends through the hip and buttock, and usually down one leg is the most common symptom of Sciatica.
▫️ The affected leg may even feel numb, weak, or tingly at times. ⁣

Treating Sciatica
▫️ Manual therapy helps by relieving nerve compression, restoring joint mobility, reducing muscle tension, and improving range of motion.

▫️ Complementary Modalities such as Cryotherapy, Therapeutic Ultrasound and Electrotherapy may be utilised to help improve blood circulation, decrease inflammation, and reduce muscle spasms.

▫️ A personalised exercise plan will be developed to strengthen the core, lower back, hips, and legs.
▫️ These areas are essential for spinal stability.

▫️ Functional training and gait training will be introduced for long-term pain management and improved movement.

If in doubt, please seek professional advice.
