Listening to music has deep, nearly instantaneous effects on your physiology – a relaxing or comforting song can trigger your heart rate to slow, and can bring you more into the present moment.
Similarly, an upbeat, joyful song can energize you and leave you feeling ready to take on the day.
If you work in a busy office or your kids are taking a nap, invest in a nice pair of headphones so you can listen to your favorite playlists in peace. Try being as mindful as possible instead of staying inside your head, Lean into the sensory experience of music – let the familiar melodies and lyrics carry you away, if only for a few minutes before you have to return to work or homelife.

With the many demands of daily life, it’s completely natural to feel out of balance from time to time.
Maybe your job has become particularly busy and you have less time to invest in your family life or friendships. Or perhaps a family crisis has left you with less energy to spend at work or taking care of your physical health.
While it’s normal to have to prioritize certain aspects of our lives at the expense of others, this can also have the consequence of throwing us out of alignment mentally, physically, and emotionally. This is one of the biggest causes of burn-out – when we're too out of balance, it can deteriorate our well-being and lead to feelings of exhaustion and overwhelm.

We all know how important self-care is and how crucial it is to manage our stress and anxiety.
Many of us may also have intuition about the tools that will help us achieve more balance in our lives. However, it can be extremely challenging to find ways to actually apply what we know—especially when we’re feeling overwhelmed and depleted. ��That’s where a holistic well-being coach comes in.
From our very first meeting, my goal is to help guide you toward making positive shifts in your life, shifts that are not just “pie in the sky,” but that you can actually put into practice.
If you’re a busy executive, maybe we’ll develop a plan to incorporate 5-minute “breathing breaks” into your busy day.

It's important to look at your stress and anxiety holistically. There are many different variables that can contribute to your stress and anxiety, some of which are more obvious than others.
While it’s generally easy to identify stressors like a demanding job, it’s important to consider the full breadth of your health and well-being. For instance, your stress and anxiety level can also be hugely influenced by factors like sleep, interpersonal relationships and even your diet.
What’s more, many of these factors are interrelated, one stressor sn*******ng into another. For instance, if a stressful day at work keeps you up at night, you might end up drinking more coffee than usual the next day. This can lead to you feeling “wired” and on edge, which may in turn ramp up your anxiety level. The combination of greater anxiety and caffeine intake can interfere with sleep, restarting this vicious cycle.
As a holistic well-being coach, I consider the full breadth of your health and wellness, including your career, relationships, sleep, nutrition, exercise and emotions. Together, we will work to pinpoint the biggest sources of your stress and anxiety, paving the way for an actionable strategy for addressing them.

Feeling stressed and anxious is a normal, if unpleasant, part of the human experience.
Exhaustion is a common consequence of stress and anxiety and can throw us into a challenging loop – the more stressed we are, the more exhausted we become, and the more exhausted we are, the more difficult it is to manage our stress.
If you’re having this experience, know that you aren’t alone.
As a holistic well-being coach, I have had countless clients who come to me feeling burnt out and overwhelmed. Even though I am a professional coach, I still feel that way myself sometimes! The good news is that there are concrete ways we can improve our relationship to stress and anxiety. It’s critical to surround ourselves with tools and people who will help establish accountability for meeting our goals.
Once you’ve decided on your new routine, tell a friend, family member, or partner what your plan is so they can help support you. Teaming up with someone you trust can also be incredibly motivating – maybe there’s a friend to go to the gym with you, or a partner who will join you in a meditation. Tap into your support network as much as possible, and know that you’re not alone!
Journaling about your goals on a regular basis is also a wonderful way to stay honest with yourself about where you’re at, what’s working or not working, and how you can continue to make progress.
There are also many tools and apps to help you maintain your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. The “Calm” app is a favorite of mine and includes hundreds of guided meditations you can use throughout the day.
Be sure to take advantage of the resources and support networks surrounding you to help you meet your goals!

Sometimes life gets in the way of even the best-made plans.
We’re all human, and that means there are times when it simply isn’t possible to meet all our wellness goals. Maybe work gets crazy and we can’t commit to working out as frequently as we’d planned. Or we have a couple of sleepless nights and find it challenging to cook nutritious meals or spend time with friends.
In order to prepare for these difficult moments, plan ahead by creating back-up plans. If you don’t have time to go to the gym one day, see if you can do a 10-minute yoga class in your living room. If you’re too tired to spend time with friends and family, try a 15-minute phone call instead.
Coming up with back-up plans is an excellent way to keep forward momentum in meeting our goals, even when life throws obstacles in our way.

The key to sustaining positive life changes is keeping a regular, doable schedule that allows you to check in on your progress.
Before you start a new week, create an action plan for how and when you’re going to apply your goals.
Block out times for going for a walk around the neighborhood, doing a 5-minute meditation, or cooking a healthy dinner. You can even set an alarm on your phone once every hour as a reminder to take a break, stretch, or spend a few moments outside in nature.
Whatever your goals are, be sure you’re finding ways to build them into your weekly calendar. Without us scheduling time to work on these milestones, they too often fall by the wayside in the midst of our busy lives.

Set clear goals that represent your personal vision.
We’re often bombarded with messages on TV shows, social media, and the internet about who we should be and what we should look like.
As a result, we can forget to check in with ourselves about what’s most important to us personally, and what specific milestones would best suit our individual needs.
Try journaling or creating a vision board to capture your wellness goals for 2023. As you work, think about these questions:
👉 What area(s) of my life do I want to change, and why?
👉 Where do I want to see myself and my health by the end of this year?
👉 What are small, achievable ways I can effect change in my day to day life?
Once you know what’s important to you, you can start putting together a personalized plan for putting this into action.
