We often hear people describing themselves as a โcry babyโ or a โhot headed personโ. We are here to remind you that emotions and identities are two distinct concepts:
Emotions are temporary, subjective experiences that arise in response to various stimuli, such as thoughts, events, or interactions.
Identity, on the other hand, refers to our sense of self, encompassing our values, beliefs, personality traits, roles, and affiliations. Identities are relatively stable and enduring aspects of ourselves.

Emotions serve several essential functions:
Emotions provide us with valuable information about our environment, relationships, and internal states.
Emotions motivate us to take action, pursue goals, and avoid harm. They drive us to seek pleasure, comfort, and connection.
Emotions help us connect with others, express ourselves, and communicate our needs and desires.
Emotions help us remember significant events, associate experiences with emotions, and learn from our mistakes.
Emotions influence our physical and mental health. Chronic stress, anxiety, or depression can have negative effects on our well-being, while positive emotions like gratitude, joy, and love can promote resilience and overall health.
So remember, while emotions can be a significant part of our experiences, they are not the same as our identities. Emotions come and go, whereas identities provide a sense of continuity and coherence.
