And just like that... March belongs to Neroli.

Before we finish talking about this month’s oil, here are some fun facts about the Neroli flower. It is even more amazing than you might think!

✨ Did you know...

🌸 The Bitter Orange tree (Citrus aurantium) is truly the overachiever of the botanical world β€” it is the only tree that produces three completely different essential oils: Neroli from the flowers, Petitgrain from the leaves and twigs, and Bitter Orange from the peel β€” each with its own distinct aroma and therapeutic character.

🌸 It takes approximately 1,000 – 1,200 kg of hand-picked blossoms to produce just 1 litre of Neroli oil β€” making every single drop a true labour of love. πŸ’›

🌸 The tradition of brides wearing orange blossoms traces back to Ancient China, where the tree’s unique ability to bloom and bear fruit simultaneously made it a powerful symbol of purity and fertility. This custom travelled to Europe via the Crusaders, but it was Queen Victoria who cemented its place in modern history. By choosing a wreath of orange blossoms over a diamond tiara for her 1840 wedding, she sparked a global fashion trend that defined the Victorian bride.

🌸 Neroli oil is reportedly one of the secret ingredients in the closely guarded recipe for Coca-Cola!. πŸ₯€

Neroli is not just an oil. It is a reminder that nature, at its most refined, has the power to calm a racing mind, soften grief, and return us β€” gently β€” to ourselves.

We hope this month brought you a little more beauty, a little more knowledge, and perhaps a new companion for your aromatic journey. πŸ’›

Now you know where Neroli comes from. Let's look at what makes it special β€” and how to use it safely.

πŸ‘ƒπ‡π¨π° 𝐈𝐭 π’π¦πžπ₯π₯𝐬
Think of Mandarin as sunshine. Neroli is more like moonlight.

It opens with a light, fresh citrus smell. In the middle, it turns sweet and floral. At the end, it leaves a warm, soft finish.

It works well with Rose, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Bergamot, and Lavender.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 π”π¬πž 𝐈𝐭 π’πšπŸπžπ₯𝐲
Neroli is gentle. It won't irritate the skin, cause reactions, or increase sun sensitivity β€” which makes it safer than most citrus oils.
How much to use:
β€’ Face or sensitive skin: 0.5–1%
β€’ Body massage: 1–2%
β€’ Diffuser: 3–4 drops per 100ml of water

πŸ“Œ
Always dilute essential oils before applying them to the skin. If you are ever unsure, seek guidance from a certified aromatherapist β€” they are trained to help you use oils safely and effectively.

Have you tried Neroli before? 😊Let us know in the comments.πŸ‘‡

🌿From the fruit to the flower...

Last month, we fell in love with Mandarin πŸŠβ€” its bright zest, its cheerful energy, and its gentle warmth.

This March, we follow the citrus blossom to something even more exquisite. Welcome to our Oil of the Month: ✨ NEROLI ✨

Distilled from the delicate white blossoms of the Bitter Orange tree (Citrus aurantium), Neroli shares the broader citrus genus with last month's Mandarin β€” yet where Mandarin gives us the fruit, Neroli offers us the flower: an entirely different, more exquisite aromatic experience.

πŸ‘‘ A Royal Story
The name β€œNeroli” is believed to come from the Princess of Nerola in Italy in the 17th century. She liked the scent of orange blossom and used the perfume on her gloves and personal items. Because of her influence, the fragrance became popular among European nobility. Since then, the name β€œneroli” has been used for the essential oil distilled from orange blossoms.

🌍 A Precious Essential Oil
Neroli essential oil is distilled from the flowers of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium). The oil yield is very small. It takes about 1,000 kg of freshly picked orange blossoms to produce around 1 kg of neroli essential oil. This is why neroli oil is considered one of the most precious essential oils.
Today, neroli is mainly produced in Mediterranean and North African regions, including Tunisia, Morocco, France and Egypt.

The aroma of the oil can vary slightly depending on where the flowers are grown and how the oil is distilled.

Stay with us this month as we explore its scent, its science, and its soul. 🌿

Are Citrus Essential Oils Too Strong for Skin?

You may have heard that citrus essential oils β€” like lemon, orange, or mandarin β€” are too strong or unsafe to use on your skin.

πŸ‹ This is partly true.
Some citrus oils, especially lemon, lime, and bitter orange, can irritate the skin or cause sun sensitivity. This is because they contain natural chemicals called furanocoumarins, which can react with sunlight and may cause redness or burns if applied before sun exposure.

🍊 But not all citrus oils are the same.
Red Mandarin essential oil (Citrus reticulata) is considered one of the gentlest citrus oils. The cold-pressed oil contains low levels of furanocoumarins, which means it has a low risk of sun sensitivity. Many aromatherapists use red mandarin safely with children, during pregnancy, or on sensitive skin β€” always properly diluted in a carrier oil.

βœ… So, the truth is:
Some citrus oils do need extra care, especially in sunlight. But Red Mandarin is a gentle and safe choice when used the right way.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Always dilute essential oils before using them on the skin. If you're unsure about sun safety, apply at night or only on areas covered by clothing.
πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ And if you’re ever in doubt, always seek guidance from a certified aromatherapist β€” they are trained to help you use oils safely and effectively.

Why gentle oils can feel better after long periods of stress

When someone has been stressed for a long time, the body can become more sensitive.
Strong smells or very intense scents may feel too much, instead of being calming.

Gentle essential oils work differently. They do not try to change how you feel right away. Instead, they help your body slow down and relax naturally.

One example of a gentle oil is lavender.

Lavender is often thought of as a simple or common oil, but that is exactly why it works well. Its scent is soft, familiar, and comforting. For people who feel tired, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained, this softness matters.

Strong or sharp scents can sometimes add to the stress. Lavender supports calm quietly, without demanding attention. It allows the body to relax in its own time.

In aromatherapy, more strength does not always mean better results.
Sometimes, gentle support is exactly what the body needs.

January β€” Bergamot | Getting the Beginning Right

Bergamot is interesting not because of how strong it is, but because of how carefully it is made.

Most bergamot oil is taken from the peel of the fruit using a cold-press method. This keeps the aroma close to the original citrus peel, but it also means the oil contains natural compounds like bergapten, which require careful use.

Bergamot can also be steam distilled or further processed to remove bergapten. This creates what is known as bergapten-free (FCF) bergamot. The aroma is slightly cleaner and more controlled, and the oil is easier to use in more situations.

These different methods don’t make one oil better than the other.
They simply serve different purposes.

In blending, bergamot is often used at the very start. It appears first, helps organise the scent, and prepares the space for what comes next β€” even if you don’t notice it directly.

January works the same way.
Before moving forward, it’s worth setting things up properly.

Bergamot reminds us that a good beginning doesn’t need to be loud β€”
it just needs to be right.

1 January 2026 | A New Beginning

A new year opens quietlyβ€”inviting clarity, balance, and intention.

To begin 2026, we turn to Bergamot Essential Oil.

Cold-pressed from the peel of the bergamot fruit, this oil is often appreciated for its uplifting yet calming characterβ€”a reminder that moving forward does not require force, only steadiness and presence.

In aromatherapy practice, Bergamot is commonly associated with:

Supporting emotional balance

Encouraging optimism and lightness

Helping the mind transition gently into new phases

As you step into the year ahead, consider starting not with pressure or resolution, but with intentionβ€”one that supports your wellbeing, breath by breath.

May 2026 be guided by clarity, grounded confidence, and mindful care.

✨ Wishing you a balanced and purposeful New Year ✨
