SATA CommHealth SATA CommHealth meets the healthcare needs of the community in line with its mission of ‘Promoting

Since its formation in 1947, the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (or SATA) has established itself as a leading organisation for combating tuberculosis (TB) during the post-war years. Led by a founding team of doctors and businessmen/philanthropists, SATA focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TB as well as the promotion of TB awareness in Singapore during the 1940s and 50s when TB was rampant and posed a national health threat. As the incidence of TB began falling from the 1960s, SATA extended its outpatient service to treat heart diseases and was renamed from Royal Singapore Tuberculosis Clinic to SATA Heart and Chest Clinic to reflect its expanded role. SATA remained active in promoting healthy hearts and lungs by advocating a smoke-free lifestyle through the 1970s and 80s. SATA renamed and rebranded itself to SATA CommHealth in 2009 to reflect its interest and focus on community healthcare. At the same time it also became a leading provider of statutory health screening (ie. for pre-employment and pre-enrolment) and primary healthcare services. SATA CommHealth is a charity and has always been actively promoting lifelong health in the community through its integrated care and charitable programmes for over 70 years. The charity is known for its active programmes and services in reaching out to the community. This is done by serving the seniors and vulnerable by providing them with subsidised primary care services at its medical centres as well as Home and Centre-based Services such as Doctors-On-Wheels programme, Homecare and Rehabilitation Services, and Community Hub @ Fernvale that serves the elderly living in rental flats in the vicinity through talks and healthy lifestyle activities. Currently, around 200,000 consumers are serviced by its 6 medical centres in the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Jurong, Potong Pasir, Tampines and Woodlands, and its mobile services that consist of mobile X-ray units, Mammo-On-Wheels (mobile mammography service) and medical transportation. SATA CommHealth is here to care and wants to do more and reach out to even more people to continue building a healthy community.

Our Case Manager, Mr Sammy Leong, was recently invited to CNA Singapore Tonight (Monday, 1 September 2025) for a live interview on the importance of 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 and having a 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 (𝗟𝗣𝗔).

During the session, Sammy shared a real-life case of a couple who were in the midst of downsizing their flat as the husband’s health was declining. Unfortunately, before they could complete the process, the husband suffered a severe stroke that left him bed-ridden and without mental capacity. Without an LPA in place, the wife faced challenges applying to be his deputy and, ultimately, they were unable to successfully downsize their flat in time.

As an Advance Care Planning (ACP) Facilitator at SATA CommHealth, Sammy guides individuals through ACP discussions, assists doctors with LPA processes, and actively raises awareness of 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗔𝗖𝗣), 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 (𝗟𝗣𝗔), and 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗔𝗠𝗗) through talks at Active Ageing Centres, local Community Clubs, and private organisations.

💡 His key message: “Do your LPA and ACP. This way, you can appoint someone legally to decide for you and ensure your preferences are known — giving your loved ones clarity and peace of mind when it matters most.”

Migrant domestic workers working in households with children under 7 years old must be vaccinated against measles (MMR) starting 1 September 2025.

Why? Because measles spreads quickly and can be dangerous for little ones. It’s not just a childhood illness. It can cause serious issues like pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death.

This new requirement is here to keep children safe. And it’s simple to act.

Each MMR vaccine dose costs $32.50 (inclusive of GST), and two doses are required for full protection.

SATA CommHealth is now offering appointments. Call 6244 6688 or WhatsApp 9624 7353 to book.

A small step that makes a big difference for your family’s health.

On 17 August 2025, SATA CommHealth had the privilege of being invited to a heartwarming piano recital 'Harmony In Hope 2025', organised by Harmony Piano Studio.

We are deeply grateful to the school and its community for raising over $15,000 in support of our mission to provide accessible healthcare for those in need. This remarkable achievement was made possible by the dedication of more than 50 performers, volunteers, and teachers from Harmony Piano Studio who worked tirelessly to bring the event to life.

A special word of thanks also goes to our seniors, who generously volunteered their time to man our booth and share about our cause. They remind us that the spirit of giving knows no age and that their spirit of service continues to inspire us all. 💙

Recognising a gap in dialysis care, we sought to do things differently. Our new centre integrates innovation, sustainability, and holistic support — featuring eco-friendly heated water treatment and Haemodiafiltration therapy for designated patients.

Beyond technology, our strength lies in our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, dietitians, social workers, therapists, and nephrologists, working hand-in-hand to deliver comprehensive care for patients and caregivers.

Health is for everyone, including Singapore’s migrant worker community.

We partnered with SPACElogic Pte Ltd, a specialist in interior renovations and exhibition setups, to support their team with both healthcare access and education.

Here's how we supported the team at SPACElogic Group:

✅ Enrolled workers in our Primary Care Plan (P*P)
✅ Delivered a health talk on chronic disease, nutrition, and blood pressure management
✅ Guided workers on how to understand and manage their blood pressure
✅ Made it engaging with an interactive quiz
✅ Provided each participant with a pain relief cream

The workers found the session very informative and appreciated the practical tips.
We look forward to partnering with more organisations like SPACElogic to build a healthier and more informed workforce.

💬 “It’s a beautiful profession that combines both the arts and the sciences… it just seemed more fun!” – Miss Zubaidah Yusoff, our Deputy Director & Head of Special Projects at SATA CommHealth, on what drew her to her career path in Occupational Therapy.

Our Deputy Director & Head of Special Projects, Miss Zubaidah Yusoff was recently featured in an MS News article exploring a common question: Do social service professionals do the same work as volunteers?

With close to 20 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, she has worked with individuals recovering from stroke, living with dementia, and adjusting to disabilities — always with the goal of helping them regain independence and quality of life.

In the article, she clarifies the difference between Occupational Therapy and other healthcare roles, as well as the important distinction between trained professionals and volunteers. While both contribute meaningfully to the sector, professionals bring years of formal education, structured practice, and clinical insight.

💬 “Only after formal training, did I understand the reasoning behind each treatment and how different conditions affect function — knowledge that volunteers aren’t expected to have.”

Thank you, Zubaidah, for shedding light on the work of occupational therapists and raising awareness of the vital role social service professionals play in our communities!

MS News speaks with 2 social service professionals whose journeys highlight the commitment, training, and heart required in the field.
