✅ Benefits of Proprioceptive Activities for Kids

1. Improves Body Awareness

Kids learn to understand how their body moves, how much pressure to use, and where they are in space — essential for coordination and safety.

2. Calms and Regulates Emotions

Proprioceptive input has a calming effect on the nervous system. It can help reduce anxiety, hyperactivity, or sensory overload, especially for neurodivergent children (e.g. autism, ADHD).

3. Enhances Focus and Attention

After proprioceptive input, kids often feel more grounded and ready to concentrate on tasks like schoolwork or listening.

4. Supports Motor Skills

These activities build strength, coordination, and motor planning (knowing how to start and carry out a movement sequence).

5. Promotes Better Sleep

Deep-pressure input and heavy work can help prepare the body for rest by releasing serotonin and melatonin.

If your toddler is averse to trying many foods, try making mealtimes fun and interactive! You can turn fruits and veggies into fun shapes with cookie cutters, create colorful food presentations, or let them "help" with meal prep.

Introducing new foods gradually alongside their favorites can reduce anxiety, and serving smaller portions may feel less overwhelming. It's also helpful to stay relaxed and avoid pressure, as toddlers are more likely to try new things when they feel comfortable. Consistency and creativity go a long way! 🍎🍌🥕🍓🍞
